Starting this Friday, McDonald's will bundle exclusive Skylanders Swap Force figurines with Happy Meal purchases, in the restaurant's latest ploy to keep kids occupied while they stuff their faces with Chicken McNuggets.

Featured characters include Chompy, Eruptor, Free Ranger, Freeze Blade, Magna Charge, Prism Break, Rattle Shake and Wash Buckler. Eligible purchases also include coupons giving $10 off of the multiplatform Skylanders Swap Force Starter Pack and $1 off individual character figures. The week-long promotion extends through April 4.

Bear in mind, however, that Happy Meals-bundled characters are just toys, and won't summon in-game Skylanders like retail figures will. Still, if you've ever wanted a Chompy figure to display alongside your Skylanders collection, you'll want to hop in your car on Friday and order up some Happy Meals. Hint: tell the drive-thru guy that you have eight kids waiting at home for their dinner if you're trying to order a full set. Apexicon is back. Last year’s Kickstarter didn’t work out, not by a long shot, but the team are back with a reduced target, and a few more months of work and experience under their belts. The game looks like it could be the spiritual sequel to take the place of the actual sequel that Puzzle Quest is weirdly lacking. There are strong differences between the various classes, and special abilities and board control are more important than owning a large dictionary (or internet connection). Essentially, it’s turn-based wordplay combat with RPG elements and that is something I would like more of.

Summary: PC version experiencing limited issues. Balance patch deployed. Xbox 360 version delayed.

After two weeks on PC and Xbox One, Titanall's service performance remains mostly solid. The PC version is still experiencing isolated issues, notably infinite loading screens when trying to connect to a game. It seems most players on both versions, however, have had a smooth experience. For its part, the Joystiq staff has encountered no significant issues on Xbox One or PC (though matchmaking still has a confusing habit of pairing low-level players with high-level players). Servers briefly went offline around 10pm Eastern on Thursday, March 20, and began to come back online within an hour.

Titanfall has also received its first balance-tweaking and bug-squishing patch, and you can find the patch notes right here. Finally, neither Joystiq or players at large will be able to test the service of the Xbox 360 version this week, as it was delayed to April 8 in North America and Aprill 11 in Europe.

“Oh God, it’s like playing League of Legends crossed with Jumanji,” was my initial verdict on Smite. I stand by that assessment but I probably ought to flesh it out a bit in this here Wot I Think piece. Here goes:

Smite is Hi-Rez’s god-themed MOBA. Hang on, are we calling them MOBAs at the moment? ARTS? Lane pushing game? Lords management? Wizard-em-up? Magi-brawler? Five-a-side farming simulator? Whatever your preferred label, it’s Hi-Rez’s take on that genre. You play as one of a pantheon of characters based on the gods of various religions and mythological figures and proceed to do battle across a number of different game modes.

We were so close. But...

Things get a little misty as we catch up, embrace, and talk about Dark Souls 2, GDC, inFamous, and more.

Videoball looks like something you might have played on an Atari 2600 you bought at a garage sale. Played on a single screen, two teams of two triangles fire bullets at a ball, attempting to knock it into their opponents' goal. At its most basic, that's it. It's dead simple, but its complexities start to emerge within a few minutes. Charged shots, defensive walls and deflections all add a layer of high-level nuance to Videoball that serious players are bound to appreciate. On the plus side, it's also a lot of fun.

What's really surprising about Videoball, however, is its inspiration: Real-time strategy. Videoball designer Tim Rogers told us at GDC that the concept was born from the idea of reducing a game like StarCraft to a single button. Throw in scoring, thumping music and an announcer and you have something approaching NBA Jam levels of competitive camaraderie - and that was no accident.

Videoball is expected to arrive this year on PC, Mac and other platforms, courtesy of Majesco's indie label, Midnight City.
