Those anxiously awaiting the turn-based roleplaying action of Shadowrun Online won't have to wait much longer to dip into the cyberpunk world. Developer Cliffhanger Productions has revealed that the game will make its Steam Early Access debut on March 31.

Though the version of Shadowrun Online that appears on Early Access will not be the complete game, it should give players a good idea of how the full game is shaping up. According to Cliffhanger, the Early Access build will initially serve as a prologue to the core Shadowrun Online campaign and will introduce players to the game's combat mechanics. Once the basics have been nailed down, the developer plans to roll out periodic updates which will bring new content to Shadowrun Online. No specific schedule for these updates has been established, but Cliffhanger hopes to issue new content on a monthly basis.

The final, complete version of Shadowrun Online is still slated for release on PC, Mac and mobile devices toward the end of 2014, but keep in mind that any number of things could happen during Early Access testing to delay that vague release window. [Image: Cliffhanger Productions]

It's the end of an internet era. Today, news broke that the pioneering TV recap site Television Without Pity (TWoP to the faithful) will be shut down next week by parent company NBC/Universal. In its mid-2000s heyday, TWoP and its wonderful writers inspired a generation of critics, myself included. It's a real bummer to see it go. Read more...

OlliOlli studio Roll7 is working on a new game with publisher Devolver Digital, a 2.25D, cover-based, pixelated shooter called Not a Hero. Yes, 2.25D. It hits between 2D and 2.5D, a side-on perspective with isometric elements.

Players take on the role of Steve, a gun-for-hire tasked with cleaning up the city for the mayoral candidate, an anthropomorphic bunny. "Now Steve must clear five districts of crime and recruit new heroes for his cause by sliding, diving, ducking and taking cover through hundreds of full-throttle shootouts across the city," Roll7 says.

Not a Hero is due out for PC this summer, Eurogamer reports. Check out the Not a Hero factsheet on Roll7's site.

A portion of a C3 interview with Tom Brien of tinyBuild...

Cubed3: If the Wii U stretch goal was met, how do you think the Wii U GamePad controller could come into play?

Tom: I can't believe this Wii U enthusiasm came up as much as it did. I think asymmetrical multiplayer is really interesting and unexplored; I'd like to do something unique. We know that everyone playing on a Wii U has one of these screens, so why give it a back-seat?

Let's do something special. What if one player in the match could see the map as a whole? Or what if you could track your own jet after somebody stole it? What if you could pick one player as a target, and see their screen? Or just an in-cockpit view would at least be novel. We'll come up with something, and we're small and nimble enough that it can be something fun.

Cubed3: Would you consider portable platforms like Nintendo 3DS for a port?

Tom: We are a licensed Nintendo developer, so that's not outside the realm of possibility, but I'd be very surprised on that one, as much as I'd like to see it.

Cubed3: What are your plans for the future? Could JetGetters see sequels or in-game-purchases?

Tom: We're more into the idea of expanding and building upon an existing release than starting up work on a sequel. We added so much to SpeedRunners post-release. JetGetters will likely have more maps and interesting twists and game-modes a little while after the initial launch, which will all be rolled in for free, as is customary on Steam.

In-game purchases is something we're looking at, but we're more excited in the potential of the Steam Workshop, and letting people make their own fan creations, and build a market from that yourself. If I had that in games when I was growing up I'd go crazy, that's brand new. Freemium purchase stuff is a dirty word nowadays anyway; we'd like to try out something new like this.

That's JetGetters! We still need support on the Kickstarter, go grab a code for some hot sky-swappin'!

Swords & Soldiers was fellow Dutch developer Ronimo Games’ debut Wii game. It became one of the early indie classics on the system and stands the test of time extremely well.

We’ve teamed up and upgraded it so it feels right at home on Wii U! It’s still as fun as ever, but now also makes use of the Wii U GamePad and HD capabilities of the system.

Without further ado, here’s what we’ll be offering.

The classic Swords & Soldiers experience.
Playable with custom touch scheme on gamepad.
Playable with Wii remote on TV.
Multiplayer mode combining gamepad and TV.
High res HD graphics compared to SD Wii release.
Expected release end of April 2014.
Low TBA introduction price.
The game is currently undergoing localization and final bug testing, we will update this story when we know the final release date.

Halo: Spartan Assault, the twin-stick shooter spinoff of Microsoft's popular first-person shooter series, will arrive on Steam on April 4. Developed by 343 Industries and Vanguard Entertainment, the game will cost $4.99 on Valve's distribution platform. Additionally, players can pick up the game for $1.99 on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 on Microsoft's store from April 3 - 9, at which point it will be permanently reduced to $4.99.

Halo: Spartan Assault first arrived on Windows 8 PCs and tablets in July 2013. The game later found a home on Xbox One in late December 2013 before landing on Xbox 360 in January. Set before the events in Halo 4, Spartan Assault explores the origins of the Spartan Ops program through 30 campaign missions in addition to weekly XP challenges. Halo: Spartan Assault will be the first game in the series to launch on Steam, and will support the wired Xbox 360 game pad as a control option. [Image: Microsoft]

Salutation, PlayStation! The team members at Defiant Development are thrilled to announce that our Kickstarter-funded, tabletop roguelike deck builder, Hand of Fate, will be coming to PS4 and PS Vita.

For those of you who haven’t heard of Hand of Fate, it’s a roguelike that blends tabletop card gaming and video game magic. Inspired by tarot and fantasy, all bets are off as you create your own journey by building a collection of cards used to deal out a boardgame-like dungeon teeming with enemies, treasure, and adventure. Upon entering combat, the cards come to life as the player is propelled into a beautiful 3D environment to brawl it out with foes. Draw your cards, play your hand, and discover your fate.

Being a roguelike, Hand of Fate’s strength is its nearly endless combination of cards and ways to play. The deck builder lets you determine a mix of combat, chance, and equipment cards for your deck before you set out on your quest. Equipment selection ramps up replayability as the player is introduced to a slew of artifacts, weapons, and armor that modify gameplay. The player has the freedom to choose their cards, but how and when they are dealt out is purely up to The Dealer.

Hand of Fate is lovingly made by a talented team of board game, RPG, and roguelike game enthusiasts. So it’s a real treat to see our passion being brought to a new audience thanks to PlayStation.

Keep up to date with us via Twitter and Facebook.

We can’t wait for you to play Hand of Fate!
