Well, it’s no secret that we have been working night and day at the studio to bring The Last of Us to PS4.

We’re calling it The Last of Us Remastered.

13741695334_e2f461ca7a.jpg

Moving our efforts to the PS4 has allowed us to remaster an already phenomenal looking The Last of Us in 1080p with a list of upgrades including higher resolution character models, improved shadows and lighting, upgraded textures, along with even more improvements. We love setting challenging technical hurdles for us when working on each game – and this is no different. We’ve been working hard on The Last of Us Remastered to release a next-gen evolution worthy of the 200+ Game of the Year awards, not to mention the acclaim and expectations of our fans. We will be revealing more detailed information about the upgrades for the PS4 version in the coming months.

In addition to all the technical updates, we’re also including an exclusive director’s commentary for all in-game cinematics featuring Creative Director and Writer, Neil Druckmann; Voice Actor, Troy Baker, who plays Joel; and BAFTA Award winning Voice Actress, Ashley Johnson, who plays Ellie.

We’ve released a ton of additional content since The Last of Us launched in June 2013, including our first ever single player expansion, Left Behind. We’re happy to say that the major content releases will be included with The Last of Us Remastered:

  • Left Behind single player expansion
  • Abandoned Territories multiplayer map pack
  • Reclaimed Territories pack – details will be coming soon on exactly what is included

Whether you are new to The Last of Us or have played it already on the PS3, we hope you are all looking forward to this release. We are!

You can preorder The Last of Us Remastered for PS4 right now from many of your favorite retailers and receive these preorder bonuses:

  • 100 Supply Points (XP) for use in Factions mode
  • Two special bonus skins for Joel and Ellie which will be unlocked after your complete the single player campaign
  • Increased Crafting Speed for use in the Single Player Campaign
  • Increased Healing Speed for use in the Single Player Campaign
  • 9mm Reload Speed Increase Upgrade for use in the Single Player Campaign

I forgot my toothbrush. I always forget something when I pack for trips like this, and this time it's my toothbrush. That's not a big deal, I can always run out and pick up another one. It's not like the time when I forgot to bring shirts to Japan, a country that is not set up to sell shirts that even resemble something I could wear. That was way worse. So I'm going to write this post about our PAX East schedule and then hit the streets of Brooklyn in search of a toothbrush (and some floss and lip balm, because hey, let's go all out).

I tend to enjoy myself at PAX and PAX East, it's a good time to get out, meet some people, see a few games, and hang around. We also get to get up in front of a crowd and talk garbage for multiple hours, which is pretty much my second-most-favorite thing to do in the whole wide world. We're doing it again this Saturday, and some of us have thrown in for multiple panels this year.

Also, for the first time ever, our PAX panel is scheduled to be livestreamed. We're not producing the stream, but the plan is to embed the official PAX Twitch player in our chat on Saturday night and Sunday so those of you not attending the show live can see it. But if you're on site, you should come see us in person! Say hi! Touch Brad! Kiss Alex!

Everything kicks off on Friday with a pair of events...

FRIDAY, 4PM
DRAGONFLY THEATRE
"Why Internet Jerks Aren't Going to Win, And You Can Help"

This panel will feature Patrick and Zoe Quinn, both of whom have experienced some total bullshit on the internet, and they've got some ideas about why it happens and how we, as a society, can move on from at least some of this negativity. I suspect no actual internet jerks will be in attendance, which is unfortunate, since they probably need the most help in realizing that they're garbage people made of actual garbage. Human garbage, basically. I want to see this panel!

FRIDAY, 8PM
Atlantic Beer Garden, 146 Seaport Blvd.
THIS EVENT IS 21+

We're going to a bar for a couple of hours and GameSpot's footing (some) of the bill. Come by and say hi! Talk F1 with Danny and Drew! Hey, if you think you're going to come out for this, do us a solid and RSVP on this Facebook page, if you can. You don't need a ticket to attend, they just want to get a general sense of how many people are coming out for this. This overlaps with part of the Cards Against Humanity panel, which sounds pretty amazing this year, so weigh your options carefully, friends!

OK, that's Friday. Saturday is pretty quiet for us during the day, but then there's this...

SATURDAY, 9PM
ALBATROSS THEATRE
The Giant Bomb Panel That We Do At PAX

This is why we're here. What will be on this panel? I have no idea. We'll be there for a couple of hours, talking mess and dragging up some of our friends to cause all sorts of new trouble. Last time out, Johnny V and John Drake almost got into a fist fight! Can we make them go at it for reals this year? Will we call Adam Boyes and make fun of him for getting sick and skipping PAX this year? You're going to have to come and see for yourself.

Sunday is another busy day, with a few of us scattering to appear on a handful of additional panels.

SUNDAY, 10:30AM
ALBATROSS THEATRE
The Royal Rumble

Alex and I will be here along with Rich Gallup, Eric Pope, Max Temkin, Dave Lang, and about 24 more people to play the Royal Rumble mode in Wrestlemania 2000 for the N64. Alex has been practicing. I have not. Who will come out victorious!?!?!?!??

SUNDAY, 1:30PM
ALBATROSS THEATRE
404ing It: Breaking (Down) the Internet

Myself, Eric Pope, and Max Temkin will be appearing on this special PAX edition Pat Baer's long-running UCB show. We will discuss the internet, videos that can be found on the internet, and the best ways to watch said videos. Don't miss it!

Or, actually, maybe you want to miss it... I won't be hurt, but only if you're skipping out on us to see this panel...

SUNDAY, 1:30PM
BUMBLEBEE THEATRE
PRODUCED

Vinny Caravella and Rich Gallup have produced various productions both in and out of the video game business for years and years and years. They'll swap stories and attempt to dispense a little wisdom about how you (yes, you!) can produce. Ask Rich to see his special "produced" hand motion, it's really something else. I want to see this panel! Maybe we can get a feed of this panel piped into the 404ing It panel and we'll just goof on them. I already know Rich's secret hand motion, how hard could this "production" stuff be, anyway?

OK! That's it for PAX, I need to get out and find this toothbrush. See you guys in Boston!

The Behemoth is hosting a catalog sale on Xbox Live Arcade this week, discounting the studio's downloadable Xbox 360 hits Castle Crashers and BattleBlock Theater to just $4.94 apiece.

Castle Crashers, originally released back in 2008, is an arcade-style beat-'em-up in which up to four players band together to slay armies of barbarians, demons, and dragons. The more recent BattleBlock Theater puts a teamwork-oriented spin on the platforming genre, challenging players to work together as they clear dozens of included co-op levels.

As a bonus, players who purchase both featured games will unlock Hatty Hattington in Castle Crashers and the Knight in BattleBlock Theater. The Behemoth's sale continues through April 14.

Hello everyone! First of all, we want to thank you all for the warm welcome we received last time when we announced our game for PlayStation! You’re a great community and we’re happy to join it.

13700973385_599af018ee_z.jpg

For those who have missed our last announcement, we are Grimm Bros, a small indie team of five developers working on Dragon Fin Soup, a classic RPG with Roguelike elements.

We’re back, all amped up, motivated, and eager to share our latest news with you. Right now we’re crazy busy getting ready for PAX East, where we’ll have a booth, cosplayers, and a playable demo for people to try out.

Today we’d like to share with you a longer gameplay video with commentary by Randis to talk about more of the details and nuances of the gameplay and world of Dragon Fin Soup. As we point out in the video, the footage is from an Alpha build and some of the gameplay elements and UI may be subject to change.

As we are nearing the end of our Kickstarter campaign, we hope to be able to hit some more of the stretch goals so we can add our second playable character, Morgiana, who would come with her own storyline, featuring new abilities, magic, and additional dungeons and monsters.

We are also giving out some free signed prints, LE plushies, and games on our Facebook page.

Last but not least, we’d like to give a big shout-out to the super nice guys from Blit Software who have already started working on moving Dragon Fin Soup to PS3, PS4, and PS Vita!

Please feel free to ask us questions — it would be our pleasure to respond to each post.

Rehearsals and Return is the new game from (primarily) Peter Brinson, creator of the remarkable art/history/politics vignette The Cat & The Coup. This shares a certain cut-up appearance and a maudlin tone (well, depending on how you approach it), but it’s a rudimentary platform game set to surrealistic, sometimes chaotic backgrounds, wherein you collect dialogue options then make decisions about how to treat assorted famous and infamous figures. And a few less famous ones too.

At present it costs just $1, and will eventually rise to $4. This is a discussion of the experience I had with it, not of its value proposition. … [visit site to read more]

Humble Bundle PC and Android 9 received three more games this week, bringing the total number of games (appropriately) to nine. Those that spend more than the average sale price for the bundle, which is currently $3.89, get The Shivah, Savant Ascent and Syder Arcade in addition to the six games originally announced for the bundle. Each game is available through Steam for PC, Mac and Linux, via DRM-free download and on Android.

Created by adventure game developed Wadjet Eye Games, The Shivah follows Rabbi Russell Stone as he surprisingly receives a generous sum of money to keep his synagogue open. Savant Ascent comes from D-Pad Studios and blends enemy-thrashing with the music of electronic musician Savant. A PS4 version of the game was announced in March. Lastly, Studio Evil's Syder Arcade is described as a "free-scrolling, multi-directional shoot em' up." Humble Bundle PC and Android 9 will end on Tuesday, April 15 at 2:00 p.m. EDT. Just a little over a month ago, we announced that our first game — the crazy fast-and-colourful space shooter, Futuridium — was coming to PS Vita in an all new, exclusive, greatly enhanced and expanded version titled Futuridium EP Deluxe.

And what was one of the first reactions we received from our dear PlayStation.Blog readers?

“We want it on PS4, too! And fast!”

Duly noted. We just couldn’t ignore such heartfelt appeals, and so after some help from the amazing European PlayStation team — and some wizardry (read: programming and boring stuff) — we can now announce that Futuridium EP Deluxe is coming soon to PS Vita and PS4, exclusively. Here’s a little gameplay preview from the big console version:

For the readers not familiar with the game, Futuridium EP Deluxe is a fast, old-school shooter inspired mainly by the 8-bit classic Uridium, with an added hint of Zaxxon. Shake all that up in low-poly graphics, topped by a ton of fullscreen post processing effects, and served ice cold for your cube blasting pleasure.

As a lone starship pilot lost in a dimensional loop with a depleting energy bar, you’ll encounter endless waves of giant space dreadnoughts. Your only hope? Destroy the blue energy cubes on them to refill your tank and expose the main power core, which must be destroyed to move on to the next ship.

Your weapons? Your skill as a pilot, and the amazing speed of your starship — with the added ability to turn 180 degrees on the spot at the press of a button.

Your mission? Earn as many points as possible, aiming for the top of the different leaderboards, of course! To do so, you must hone your reflexes and master the nuances of Futuridium’s score system, based on multipliers and frantic cube chaining.

While we’re still not ready to uncover all the new stuff we’re adding to the game — you’ll need to wait for another PlayStation.Blog post for that — you can already have a glimpse of some new features in the gameplay trailer.

Turbo zones? Check. New enemies? Check. Teleport portals? Check!

And about the PlayStation 4 version, here’s what you can expect:

  • 1080p in glorious 60 frames per second
  • Even more dazzling visual effects thanks to the PS4′s added power
  • Leaderboards shared with the PS Vita version
  • Cool DualShock 4 features
  • Full sharing support so you can stream your best run
  • Simultaneous PS Vita / PS4 launch
  • Cross buy

Thanks for your time — we’ll share more info about our games here on PlayStation.Blog in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, you can follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and our website to read more about Futuridium EP Deluxe and our action adventure game, forma.8, also coming to PS4 and PS Vita by the end of the year.

If you have any questions, I’ll be lurking in the comment section down here, ready to answer!

“Doom clones” we called the rush of games which followed in the wake of Doom in the mid-nineties. It’s a daft and dismissive term in retrospect, though less clinical than “first-person shooter,” but, well, weren’t they basically just Doom? In the same vein, until newcomers start properly distinguishing themselves I’ll happily use “Dote ‘em up” and “Doter” for DotA-y games like Dawngate.

You can now have a bash at Waystone Games’ free-to-play Doter by joining the open beta. What makes Dawngate different to the rest? Publisher EA will tell you it has “a flexible Meta that lets you play your way” but what does that collection of words even mean?

Nintendo hosted a Super Smash Bros.-exclusive edition of Nintendo DIrect yesterday, and while the company didn't deliver an exact release date for the highly anticipated fighting sequel, we got pretty close. Super Smash Bros. arrives this summer on 3DS and this winter on Wii U. (The company has its priorities.)

There were plenty of new details revealed last night, as well.

Greninja, also known as the final evolution of Froakie from Pokemon X and Y, is one of the brand-new fighters. Sheik, Zero Suit Samus, Yoshi, and Charizard are all back, as well.

The 3DS version of the game will run "most" gameplay elements at 60 frames-per-second, a rather impressive feat for the handheld. 3DS players will also have exclusive access to the Smash Run mode, in which players enter into a dungeon, collect as many power-ups as possible, and then fight each other in an arena.

Both versions will have online play, and most stages in both versions will have "Final Destination" modes that simplify the layout. Nintendo claims the two versions will talk to one another, but it has not revealed exactly how.

The entire Nintendo Direct, which has far more details on the game, can be watched here:

Bethesda's latest gameplay trailer for The Evil Within has bits that remind us a teeny bit of the isolated, cult-based horror classic The Wicker Man, albeit in a mental hospital with rivers of blood, chained up trolls, and dudes in aprons wielding huge hammers ... wait, is that a safe on his head?

Shinji Mikami's survival horror probably doesn't have much to do with The Wicker Man, but it's clear to see the influence from arguably his most revered work, Resident Evil 4. The game stars detective Sebastian Castellanos, who's sent along with other officers to check out a series of mysterious murders at the Beacon Mental Hospital. Sure enough, Seb's colleagues get massacred and our hero wakes up to find all manner of monstrosities roaming the halls of his new reality. And then Christopher Lee places him in a giant wicker statue and burns him alive while the islanders sing and rejoice - it could happen.

The Evil Within bursts out of its shell on August 26 in North America and August 29 in Europe, and you'll be able to explore it for yourself then on Xbox One, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. In the meantime, check out our hands-off impressions following last year's reveal. [Image: Bethesda]
