You guys know I'm already a sucker for any/all animation, but it's not too often that we see stop-motion in the style of claymation. That's why I'm so happy to share this awesome work from reader Justin! Really top-notch production here.

Alas no concrete date set yet, but I'm looped into the process and it is moving forward. Couple things to keep in mind with this:

1 - I wanted to get the word out really early on this since it was cool news. The downside is that means a longer wait, primarily because...

2 - These are just a handful of titles in Nintendo's busy VC schedule. There are new titles releasing each week so that means a bit of a bottleneck. We basically announced these games as soon as it was possible to do so, which means anything already in the pipeline is ahead of all six MM GB titles.

To clarify: http://www.capcom-unity.com/brelston/blog/2013/07/18/mega-man-game-boy-games-coming-to-3ds-virtual-console

MMII~V, Xtreme and Xtreme 2 are all coming. MMX2 (SNES) is a likely candidate given that it was on Wii's VC, but no update just yet.

There has been a small update to the Wii U version of Miiverse today. (View all comments to see translations.)

Up until now, you could only search for other users by Nintendo Network ID, but now you can also search by nickname. To use this function, go to User Menu ⇒ Search Users.

Please be aware that, although Nintendo Network IDs are unique, nicknames are not, so you may get multiple results when performing a search by nickname.

An in-depth, behind the scenes look at how Phoenix Wright's latest adventure came to be...

Mwahahahahaha! It is I, Janet Hsu - Localization Director for Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies!

*ahem*

I mean... So, um, how is everyone doing? We are just one week (and a day) away from the release of Dual Destinies. Are you as excited as I am?

I hope you've all had the chance to check out the demo. If not, it's available right now on the Nintendo eShop. It doesn't require any previous knowledge of the series, so even if you've never played an Ace Attorney game before, you can jump right on in. (I, obviously, encourage you to do this.) If you're a long-time fan who wants to remain unspoiled for the main game, the demo is a modified version of the first episode, so don't worry; there will still be plenty of surprises for you - I promise! Or to put it another way, there are lines and situations that are ONLY in the demo, so you can't call yourself a TRUE ACE ATTORNEY FAN unless you've played it! *wink*

But enough of my babbling! This week, we'll be hearing from Ms. Ikawa and Mr. Daigo - two of our team's game designers who worked tirelessly to make sure that your gaming experience is as fun and smooth as possible! Take it away, Ms. Ikawa!

Daisuke Yamamoto - Creator of Puzzle & Dragons
Tetris
Street Fighter 2
Pokemon

''It's easy to come up with a top two. That would be Street Fighter 2 and the original Pokemon. As for the third, if you forced me to pare it down from a large number of candidates...maybe it would be Tetris. Keep in mind, though, I've gotten a lot of influence from arcade games too. The game design's oriented entirely around giving players a measure of satisfaction with a single coin, and a lot of that philosophy applies to smartphone games, too -- how you have to provide something fun in a compact matter for limited free time.''

Kaname Fujioka - Producer of Monster Hunter
Street Fighter II
Mega Man
Castlevania

''The first one I'd say right off is the original Mega Man. There's just no measuring how much influence I've received from that game. After that would come SF2, which I spent ages playing with against other people at the arcades, and after that I'd put the original Castlevania, which really amazed me in terms of graphics, environment, music...pretty much everything.''

Keiichiro Toyama - Producer of Gravity Rush
Space Harrier
Xevious
Virtua Fighter

''Being in the generation I am. I've gotten a ton of influence from arcade games. Among those, I'd say that Space Harrier, Xevious and Virtua Fighter are the three that really just changed my life the first time I saw them. Really, though, I could probably list about ten other titles beyond those.''

Yasumi Matsuno - Designer for Ogre Battle
The Legend of Zelda
Ultima Online
Red Dead Redemption

''If I remember right, I was asked the exact same question a decade or so ago for one Famitsu article or another. Back then, I think my answers were the arcade Xevious, the first Legend of Zelda, and SimCity, which I played on the Mac.I'd say Zelda, Ultima Online and Red Dead Redemption. Zelda is the perfect example of getting every aspect of a game's design just right, and I still think it's really the standard that other people learn by. UO, including all the multiplayer-oriented events, really reminded me what real RPGs are all about, though the core game design is something that influenced me as well. Finally, RDR is a game that reminded me all over again about the charms of an open-world title. It was the first time in a while when I thought to myself 'I wish I could make a game like this.''

Maybe not full on surprising, but it is nice to have the confirmation that Mario Party: Island Tour is being developed by Nd Cube. This team has been responsible for Wii Party, Mario Party 9, Wii Play Motion and the upcoming Wii Party U! The old Nd Cube team has made handheld titles in the past, but this is the first time for the updated development house.

A portion of a El33tonline interview with Ubisoft lead game designer, Danny Belanger...

El33tonline: You spoke about player choice – can you get through Watch Dogs without firing a shot or killing anyone?

Belanger: I would say 95 percent of the game. There are some narrative moments… we strongly believe in good narrative and good acting and good dialogue, so sometimes we’ll create a context that’s interesting but it involves action. But most of the time it’s free approach, you can do the whole thing stealth, you can arrive anywhere you want, use hacking or use a combination of all of these things together, go from stealth to combat and back, so you can play a lot with the game dynamics.

For us, it’s so fundamental to not put you on a train track, ‘This is playing as designed’ – that’s not what we want. That being said, if there’s something we want to teach you we’ll obviously create a context in which the thing is useful so we’ll definitely create some moments and teach you something. Then the moment will arrive again, but then it will be a choice for you. Because there are a lot of new things we really wanted the player to understand the dynamics, and then allow them to choose to use them or not when they become available later.

Coming from a Shacknews interview with Eiji Aonuma...

"Ocarina of Time was the first 3D Zelda game. When you make a 3D game, you have all these 3D models. But in a 2D game, you're drawing all these 2D images. Even if you wanted to make another game right away, if the background is different, you actually end up having to re-draw everything. But in a 3D game, you can put those 3D models in different backgrounds and animate them. So Mr. Miyamoto thought 'well, actually shouldn't this make it easier for us to make a sequel? (referring to Majora's Mask)'

I think before, we did maybe try to make Zelda games come out faster. But there's so much expected of Zelda titles now, so you have to reach a certain level of quality, so that's why we started to take a bit more time now. I don't think it's necessary that development needs to be longer. But to reach a certain level of quality, there's just a certain amount of time that's needed. Obviously, the company is telling me that I need to put games out as quickly as possible.

It's not like we feel like we have a duty to get one out a year. Right now, we're able to split ourselves between the handheld and console games and have two teams. I think we're pretty efficient in getting games out on a regular interval."

A portion of a USGamer interview with Yacht Club's Nick Wozniak...

USG: The common perception of pixel art is you put some dots down on-screen in a vaguely character-like shape and you're good to go. How much planning and effort go into it?

Nick Wozniak: While small on screen, pixel art is a very intentional art where the placement of a single pixel can make all the difference. That sounds like an exaggeration to say "a single pixel", but it's not. Especially when working with small sprites, a single pixel can make the difference of whether or not a character has a face or just a jumble of colors at the top of its neck.
