PS3 is getting yet another firmware update -- this time optional -- "very soon" according to a post on the European PlayStation.Blog. The pre-Christmas update brings a feature we reported on earlier: support for PSP Minis on the PS3. Like PSone classics, a single purchase from the PlayStation Store will work on both platforms. If you've bought a Mini and want to play it on your PS3, you'll be able to access it from the Store's archived Download List. In addition to adding Minis support, update 3.15 will simplify the process of moving data from one PS3 to another. For example, if you own both a PS3 Phat and Slim, you'll be able to connect the two systems via a LAN cable and transfer data from one system to the next. For more details on how to do just that, visit the PlayStation.Blog.

If you pre-order Red Dead Redemption from GameStop, you'll be able to start redeeming a bit early -- specifically, a code for an exclusive pre-order bonus. The retailer will offer customers the chance to vote on one of three in-game challenges that, when completed, will award players an in-game costume. The hard-earned costume changes will have some unspecified effect on gameplay: according to Rockstar's announcement, "the outfit will uniquely affect how the surrounding world responds to the game's protagonist, John Marston." We don't know what any of the three choices are, but people would respond differently to a man in one of those inflatable sumo wrestler costumes. Just putting that out there. More information about the challenges and the outfits will be released in January.

Thanks to mystery person guy for the links.  One achivement is called "Double 64", an obvious tip of the hat to it's N64 roots.  I wonder if we will get it on VC?

Hideki Kamiya, creator of the forthcoming Bayonetta, would be up for making a sequel to his stylish side-scroller Viewtiful Joe if given the opportunity, according to a report by Game Informer. Not so much for Okami, though, which he'd wanted to revisit until he learned Capcom was making Okamiden for DS. "I heard the announcement that someone else would be making a sequel," he told the magazine. "Now I'm just not interested in it anymore." Kamiya, who left Capcom along with Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and other key staffers to form the now-defunct Clover Studio, doesn't retain the rights to any of the IPs he created at either company -- but nevertheless feels that the story of Viewtiful Joe "is incomplete," adding "I'd like to finish it someday." While that's probably a long shot, Kamiya has already proven he's a man full of amazing ideas, which we'll hopefully see many more of after Bayonetta -- a game he could very well make a sequel to -- is released in the US on January 5.

We don’t have a confirmation from Atlus on this, but multiple retailers (GameStop, GameFly, Amazon) are now showing Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey with a March 23rd, 2010 release date. The title was originally set for a March 9th release, and we’ll stick with that date until Atlus says otherwise.

All the Telltale gang has to say about this image is ‘here’s something new to ponder over’. Anyone want to take a stab at how this relates to the final chapter of Tales of Monkey Island?! Thanks to Yarbskoo for the heads up!

Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes is Capybara’s first retail game. They’ve only worked on downloadable games up until this project, and they’re obviously very excited to have a box, retail game out there. I wish more dev teams showed their excitement like this!

I don’t get it…I really don’t get it. Why are more Wii owners willing to pick up Tony Hawk: RIDE than other platform owners? Is that motion control draw so huge that Wii owners can’t resist? Are we just used to buying shovelware?

Square Enix has created a thrilling, cinematic trailer for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers -- and it didn't even have to lean on the Bon Jovi crutch! The latest trailer for the Wii action title makes it look kind of like a Final Fantasy take on the Indiana Jones style of adventure story -- complete with the hero being a total jerk. Instead of a whip and years of archaeological study, however, Layle has the ability to lift stuff with his mind. We always feel compelled to remind everyone about this game, especially since it's tucked away the day after Christmas. So here it is. Once again, that's Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers.

Rare has posted some new screenshots of the upcoming Xbox Live Arcade remake of Perfect Dark. If you're looking at the above screen and thinking it doesn't look too hot, you aren't alone. Fret not, however, as this is a shot from the original game. After the break, you can see what the wizards at Rare have done to beautify the original. Once you finish marveling at its majesty, check out another screenshot and some new art in the gallery below.

I love me some PD.  More screens:  http://www.rare.co.uk/games/pdarcade/images.html  I bet they remade Goldeneye too, but won't ever be able to release it.
