The Defense of the Ancients trademark recently filed by Valve is being challenged. Riot Games, the creator of the free-to-play DotA clone League of Legends, has apparently counter-filed, claiming that the trademark should be held by DotA Allstars creators Steve "Guinsoo" Feak and Steve "Pendragon" Mescon, who later worked with Riot on LoL.

The pair filed for the trademark themselves "to protect the work that [original DotA creator] Eul, Guinsoo and dozens of other modders have done to create the game," Pendragon told Joystiq via email. He added that, "if we were to obtain the trademark, we would keep the game and the DotA name freely available to the mod community."

Valve still hasn't returned multiple requests for comment, but of course DotA's most recent author, Icefrog, now works for the company on a project that will "excite " DotA fans, and as long ago as 2008 was reportedly shopping around a full-scale version of the popular mod. Pendragon tells PC Gamer that he'd prefer no one owned the trademark to DotA, but it seems that if Valve is planning to take the name for its own title, Guinsoo and Pendragon will fight for it.

A portion of an NWR review… …there isn’t much to come back to after you beat it, even though the short ride through the game is totally worth it. If you’re satisfied with a short and sweet puzzle platformer for under $10, then Divergent Shift is right in your wheelhouse.

Loot-loving hoarders and packrats, take note: Steam has slashed the price of Gearbox's Borderlands by 66 percent. In addition to the full game, each of the three available DLC packs has also had its price slashed -- the game will set you back $10.19, while each piece of DLC is now only $3.39 each. All together, you're looking at a price of $20.36 during the midweek sale. Our elementary school math teacher would be so proud right now!

What on earth could this trademark be about? I mean, we know what series it’s related to, but the subtitle has me puzzled. Can anyone make sense of this one? Thanks to Gui for the heads up!

Naruto games tend to be on the gorgeous side of things, and Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 looks to be another visually impressive entry in the franchise. And that attractiveness won't be lacking for applications, as the game features "over 40" playable characters, evidenced by its latest trailer from Gamescom.

Additionally, Limbo held its own with a second-place finish on the sales charts, one spot ahead of the more recent Castlevania: Harmony of Despair.

Meanwhile, Baby Maker Extreme slipped to fourth on the Indie Games chart. Now we're going to be worried about it all week. Click past the jump to see how the rest of the console's offerings fared.

You guys already know the drill: 5TH Cell has released a new batch of screenshots for Super Scribblenauts, one which follows the format of all the developer's previous asset blasts for the series. That is to say:

There's a lovely, illustrated desktop background, followed by: A handful of clever solutions to a few in-game puzzles, which leads into: A couple of screens showing the puzzle creation tools, and finally: A screen showing that, yes, the game is capable of discerning between cerulean, sunlit, cow-like, centaurian, tricolor and cotton elementals. This screen is commonly referred to as "5TH Cell's really just showing off now."
