Video games comedian Brentalfloss has had a long-running "What if video game songs had lyrics?" gag. His first, Mega Man 2, I featured five years ago, and we all had a great laugh. But now, with Metroid—one of gaming's most beloved soundtracks—he and vocalist Alysha Umphress play it straight, and get it right.Read more...

UK-based developer Remode will be closing its doors after seven years in operation as a work-for-hire studio, founders Ella Romanos and Martin Darby announced late last week. Romanaos and Darby started Remode with the intention of creating their own IP, using work with other studios to fund development. According to the news on Remode's website, that's no longer the case, though the duo still plan to develop original projects.

"We sought to build a work-for-hire platform with the ultimate goal of developing our own IP and seven years in we're incredibly proud of what we have achieved," Romanos and Darby wrote. "Making our own games remains our goal, so we have made the decision to close down Remode as a work-for-hire studio and focus on developing new ways to raise resources for IP projects, plans for which will be announced soon." The night is dark, and the howls of the undead fill the air like a despairing fog. As you survey abandoned streets, wrecked cars littering the sidewalks, you hear the ghouls approach. They nip at your heels and scratch as you pass. They swell around you, and you turn to face them with a pounding heart. Luckily, you’re armed. Dead Nation Apocalypse Edition is coming to PS4, and it’s bringing back the cult-classic PS3 shooter with new features and upgraded visuals. Grab a friend and fight through the throngs of undead in adrenaline-pumping firefights for high scores and survival.

Not a zombie fan? The hotly-anticipated South Park: The Stick of Truth is also headed to PlayStation this week. Experience a hilarious RPG written by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and journey on an epic quest to become “cool.”

A portion of a C3 review...

The absolutely marvelous soundtrack and lush visuals only further support the tight and extremely satisfying gameplay, resulting in an overall package that is one of the best 2D platformers of all time - one that fans of classic platforming should truly go bananas over.

Like many retro games, the series wasn't exactly forgiving of newbies. Nor, as it turned out, old hands. In a 1994 interview with Famitsu (back when it was known as Famicom Tsushin), Shigeru Miyamoto admitted that he found the original Mother so difficult that the only way he could finish it was by utilising the debug mode.

- confirmed by Jupiter
- due out at the end of April
- applies to both North America and Europe

Little Mac being announced for Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS was a big deal here in the states, but what did our friends in Japan think of the reveal? It seems that Punch-Out!! is a bit more highly regarded here than in the land of the rising sun...

- The Punch-Out guy?
- He’s always been a highly-wanted character overseas
- Too niche, should’ve been left as a trophy. They should be using other companies’ characters before ones like this
- He’s extremely popular overseas and has been around since the Famicom days. I only learned about him from Captain Rainbow, though
- I dunno who this is. They should’ve used the guy from Kung Fu instead
- I think they should’ve left this as a secret character
- Makes sense for him to be in it, I expected some retro game characters
- The guy from Punch-Out? Is he really that memorable enough to be in Smash Bros?
- This guy was pretty strong assist character. So he’s gonna be an actual character now?
- I’m not as mad as I am dumbfounded. These character choices are such a joke

That's just a small sampling of what people have been saying. You can check out even more comments here.

Since Japan doesn't seem too interested in Little Mac, just who do they want in the game? You can see some often-requested characters below.

Paper Mario
Nick / Captain Rainbow
Monster Hunter
Lucina
Dixie
Daisy
Waluigi
Shulk

Thanks to Arthur for the heads up!

Sundays are for losing my edge. I’m losing my edge to the internet seekers who can tell me every member of every Amgia developer from 1987 to 1991. I hear that you and your blog have sold your PCs and bought Ouyas. But have you seen my collection of the week’s best (mostly) game’s related scribbling?

  • Over at Eurogamer, Donlan says thank you to the sadly departed Harold Ramis, and muses on how to say thank you to the anonymous people who make the things we love in videogames. “In truth, if you’re like me, you’ll have little idea of who was responsible for many of your favourite moments in many of your favourite games – and that’s a crying shame, since a lot of games are their best moments, living on in your memory, playing over and over and getting sharper and more distinct each time. To me, Arkham City is the grapnel boost. Batman has the best ropes! Look at it go, unspooling from the end of the gun with a puff of smoke, first a coiled Slinky of wire, then a taut black line connecting you to your destination.”
