CCP CEO talks expansion, warns a big companies becoming 'very dumb, very quickly'

After devoting the last decade t' tweaking 'n maintaining it be spacefaring MMO, EVE Online, CCP Games be ready for a multi-product future, CEO Hilmar Petursson explained in an interview with GamesIndustry International.
"That sort a self-division, structuring the company around multiple products, be something that we've taken a lot a time t' do," Peturrson admits. "Now we be in that world, we be much better structured t' make that a continued success without losing focus on EVE, which be obviously hugely important t' us."
Petursson notes that company leaders must emphasize structure during times a expansion, or else risk losing momentum. "There's a lot a focus on learning when ye have a bigger company, t' make sure the entire system be learning," he said. "The biggest shift be realizing that. A big company can become very dumb, very quickly. The larger the group a people becomes, the more ye lose efficiency, fluidity, creativity, 'n innovation, unless ye structure it very well."
The recent PlayStation 3 release a the EVE companion game Dust 514 has also proven fruitful. "we be seeing a different fanbase with Dust, but they behave similarly," Petursson explains. "EVE Online just became more interesting because Dust exists. Dust be more interesting because it be in a partnership with EVE Online. We see a lot a power in that idea."
