#capcom The man behind Street Fighter IV doubts that Capcom would want him to work on a Hyper Street Fighter IV after iterative Super Street Fighter IV hits stores this year. Instead Yoshinori Ono has something else in mind: Darkstalkers. More »

Based on some leaked shots of a supposed Super Street Fighter IV theme coming to the Xbox 360 (spotted by Shoryuken), Capcom's cast of brawlers are getting some fresh threads. In the case of Dee Jay above, it looks like he's getting a time machine back to the early '90s when those pants were still cool. But, we digress.

These costumes look all well and good, but what about newcomer Hakan? How do you clothe a man perpetually covered in baby oil?

#streetfighter While everyone pretty much knew he was coming, it's still nice to see Capcom take the wraps off Super Street Fighter IV's final new character Hakan with a couple of trailers. More »

Capcom has revealed the final new character for Super Street Fighter IV, and he's ... well, he's a giant dude covered in oil. Like, Hakan actually oils himself up before each round. This has the aesthetic effect of being extraordinarily off-putting, and the functional effect of allowing him to slide across the stage as if it were the Crocodile Mile. And since he's a grappling-type character, you get these really great squishing noises whenever he grabs another character.

See Hakan in action after the break, courtesy of IGN, and just try to imagine the design process behind this guy. Suddenly a green guy who can generate electricity sounds pretty low-key.

Ever since Super Street Fighter IV was revealed, purchasers of the first game have leveled their criticism directly at Capcom (some of them more vulgar than others) for supposedly devaluing the first title by releasing an updated version with extra features and characters. But now it looks like Capcom may be ready to send some love back the other way: Its VP of Business Development, Christian Svensson, says to MTV Multiplayer that for "those who have purchased and played Street Fighter IV on the system that they play [the Super version] on, there will be a nifty little special set of things that those people will have the option of enjoying that others won't."

That's awfully vague -- "purchased and played?" "Special set?" "Things?" "Enjoying?" -- No, wait, we do understand that last one. But clearly Capcom has some 'splaining to do. It sounds like an SFIV save will enable some bonuses (characters? costumes? stages?) in SSFIV, and that would make sense, but we'll wait for more details before we can be sure that players who bought the first version get everything they think they deserve. You know, besides the chance to own and play the game for over a year before the next version releases.

Capcom's VP of strategic planning and business development, Christian Svensson, officially confirmed the retailer-listed $40 price for the upcoming car vandalism sim, Super Street Fighter IV, in a recent interview with Gamasutra. Expanding on statements made when the game was first announced, Svensson said, "Going $10 above Platinum/Greatest Hits pricing was sort of a nice compromise ... It's $40 -- we had two choices, and the economics didn't work out on one ... no matter what, we were fracturing the userbase, and we had to start from scratch."

He went on to explain that the content was simply too much for a platinum version of the game, and that a new release would render cross-game play between SFIV and SSFIV impossible due to differing "title IDs." Svensson also teased that those who played SFIV on the system for which they purchase SSFIV will get access to "a nifty little special set of things that those people will have the option of enjoying that others won't."

Moving on to the subject of January's launch of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Svensson said, "We're a couple weeks in right now, and we've been doing re-orders. We're not at all dissatisfied with the sales at this point." As for long-term sales of the game, he added, "We are cautiously optimistic that it's going to have long legs ... the Versus series is well served by Tatsunoko as an outing. It really happens bring Versus back as a viable brand for Capcom." With any luck that means we'll see more ... interesting mashups from Capcom's Versus series in the coming years. Maybe Nintendo or Square? Whaddya say, folks?

Finally, after being announced by the latest issue of Famitsu and then a leaked trailer, Capcom has re-reconfirmed the addition of Street Fighter III: Third Strike's Ibuki, Makoto and Dudley to the roster of Super Street Fighter IV. Along with the announcement, Capcom dropped a few pieces of concept art and screenshots featuring the new brawlers, posted in the gallery below. The developer also released two gameplay clips -- one featuring Dudley, which we've posted above, and one featuring Makoto and Ibuki, which we've posted after the jump.

Feel free to check them out, if you'd like -- however, we all know that these characters' existence is meaningless. We're just going to keep playing Rufus, because he's the best character in any game, ever. Just look at him jump! How does he jump like that?

It seems like only yesterday we were telling you about three more confirmed characters for Super Street Fighter IV. Wait -- it was yesterday. So then, we assume you know about Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike's Ibuki, Makoto and Dudley joining the game's roster. Now would be a good time to tell you that a trailer -- in HD, no less -- has hit YouTube, showing the newcomers pulling off their special moves (as opposed to the ho-hum ones we tend to use). There's something a little odd though ... oh, right -- Capcom USA still hasn't made an official announcement about any of this. Maybe everyone there is playing the StarCraft 2 beta.

Check our the trailer after the break.

[Thanks, Jon!]

[Image: Udon Entertainment] The latest issue of Famitsu has started making the rounds and, as spotted by multiple fan sites, it contains confirmation that three new characters (well, old ones, technically) have joined the already bursting roster of Super Street Fighter IV. Newly added Ibuki, Makoto and Dudley all hail from Street Fighter III (the trio being a ninja, a karate master and a boxer, respectively). The news has the SF community crackling with excitement; even Udon Entertainment, creator of comic books based on the famous fighting series, has caught the "Here comes a new challenger!" fever.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

Capcom's idea of celebrating Valentine's Day involves watching some virtual women fight. That's not exactly the canonical interpretation of the couples' holiday, but on the upside, it does mean we get a new Super Street Fighter IV trailer. That makes us a lot more willing to look past the odd undertones. It's not in-game footage, but we do enjoy seeing the unique style of Street Fighter IV cinematics.

Capcom also released some (relatively) more appropriate Valentine's Day material: a set of Valentines made from Super Street Fighter IV screens. Actually, upon further review, forget the "appropriate" part.

Accessory company Mad Catz released its earnings report for the third quarter of its fiscal year (ending December 31, 2009), with numbers that suggest its wares are selling like mad. Net sales came to $48.8 million, which is "the second-best quarter of sales in the company's history." Profits increased 51 percent over the same period in the previous fiscal year, a change Mad Catz attributes to its movement out of low-price controllers and into higher-end specialty accessories. Hello $150 FiightStick!

In its announcement, Mad Catz also listed the controllers and accessories it plans to ship in the near future. In addition to the new Super Street Fighter IV "Tournament Edition S" FightSticks (pictured above), the release also reveals plans to sell a new Super Street Fighter IV edition of the standard FightStick. It's as of yet unconfirmed if the standard stick will be given a new layout and shell like the superified Tournament Edition stick, or merely new artwork.

If you prefer Street Fighter in hand-drawn 2D instead of the look of Street Fighter IV, and if you prefer it to be ... completely non-interactive, well, Capcom has some exciting news. A Super Street Fighter IV anime project is in the works from the Gonzo animation company. The anime focuses on Juri (and her weird glowing eye), but also contains "great fighting action," "backstory goodness," and "plenty of Cammy and the Dolls," according to Capcom's Seth Killian. How to see the anime is a bit of a mystery. Capcom is offering it to Xbox 360 buyers of Super Street Fighter IV as a bonus (possibly as some kind of download or through Xbox Live Marketplace), but that offer is for Japan only. The fact that a trailer is available on Xbox Live Marketplace in North America suggests that it will be available here in some form. We're checking with Capcom for details. In the meantime, enjoy the trailer above or through your Xbox. Shortcut: Download the Super Street Fighter IV anime trailer

Now that we know when we can get our hands on Super Street Fighter IV (April 27!) we can start flipping out in earnest about the prospect of experimenting with all the new characters. Capcom, anticipating our desire to flip out, sent out a new trailerwhich features all of the currently announced characters showing off what they can do. It's totally worth watching just to see Dee Jay win, then get totally stomped in rapid succession. Also, watch for Cody ruining a "Street Fighter: Screw the Rules" mural. What a jerk!

Having pulled some of its heaviest hitters out of the busy Q1 release calendar, Capcom is ready to reassign those titles to an entirely new part of the calendar, one that hasn't been getting nearly as much attention as its numeric predecessor: Q2. Monster Hunter Tri was already announced for April, but now Super Street Fighter IV will join it on April 27th in North America and April 30th in Europe. New characters, new combos, and the return of the smash-a-car bonus stage (see pic!) are highlights of the not-yet-priced though sure-to-be affordable followup. Lost Planet 2 is more "sequel" than Super Street Fighter IV-style expansion. The co-op focused third-person shooter offers "larger-than-life bosses" and four player co-op over Xbox Live or PlayStation Network, and you'll be able to take it up on that offer on May 18th in both North America and Europe. That leaves us some room in the June video game budget, if any publishers are looking to take advantage of the rest of Q2.

Have you been curious to see how Super Street Fighter IV's newly indoctrinated jailbird Cody does his titular street fighting? What about the lightning-quick Adon? Or the generically-named Guy? All three of these brawler's techniques are dissected in the three GameTrailers videos we've posted after the jump. If you're an expert SFIV player, it'll show you the new strategies you'll need to develop to succeed in the game's Super iteration. If you're like us, it'll show you the moves you'll occasionally and accidentally execute as your hands flail across the controller's surface.
