Comcept released a new gameplay video of crowdfunded platformer Mighty No. 9 running in alpha, and it showcases some familiar-feeling run-and-gun gameplay along with images of Mighty Numbers 1 to 8. If we had to pick a favorite it would have to be Mighty No. 6, because he's got a cross between a bomber plane and a helicopter for a head, and missiles that launch out of his ankles. He looks like he'd be a lot of fun at a party.

Keiji Inafune's new platformer was one of the most successful gaming fundraisers of 2013, amassing a mighty $3.8 million through Kickstarter alone. While Comcept is starting to show more and more gameplay we're still a good year away from the estimated release date of spring 2015, when the game will rock and roll onto Xbox One, PS4, Wii U, PS3, Xbox 360, Vita, 3DS, Wii U, Windows PC, Mac, and Linux. Come April, PlayStation fans can enjoy the same masochistic waiting game as Steam users when preloading comes to PS4. Sony itself has yet to confirm the feature but Sucker Punch, the studio behind Infamous: Second Son, said on Twitter that it's on the way this spring.

"No preload until April," said Sucker Punch, responding to Twitter users anxious to play the new Infamous. "[And] for North America, the PS Store will update at midnight PST, so 3AM EST."

Even when pre-ordering a digital copy of PlayStation 4, PS3 or PS Vita games through PSN, users still need to wait for games to actually hit their release dates to download them. Steam and Origin PC users can often download game files ahead of release so they can play the very second a game is officially available. Unfortunately would-be PS4 superheroes will still have to wait a few minutes to scratch their Infamous itch. [Images: Sony Computer Entertainment]

A portion of a C3 interview with Matti Larsson, Zordix CEO...

Cubed3: Why the decision to develop a sequel for Wii U instead of 3DS?

Matti: 3DS is indeed a great gaming platform! We will make completely new 3DS games using what we have learned. From earlier business experience, a sequel typically takes long tail sales from a prequel on the exact same platform.

At the same time we want to realise many new ideas for Aqua Moto Racing to their full potential. Besides being on a new platform, a Wii U game gives us the opportunity to make something much bigger - HD graphics for fantastic levels and characters, the Wii U GamePad controller and enough processor power to make state of the art water simulation. I could go on and on with the advantages of the new generation TV console.

Cubed3: How do you intend on taking advantage of the Wii U GamePad controller?

Matti: A very good question! Besides split-screen together with the GamePad allowing up to 5 players, we have been working on a unique stunt mechanism and special innovative new game modes where the GamePad is at the centre. We will reveal more later and try to introduce these concepts in film clips and screens as they are implemented and tuned. In this new age of constant interaction and flow of ideas, I hope we can get some extra feedback from the gaming community as we go along.

Cubed3: Would you consider bringing any of your other 3DS franchises to Wii U?

Matti: Yes, that would be great! I think all of them would be possible. But we're very focused on bringing this title to Wii U right now in 2014.

One of the more unexpected side-effects of the difficult last couple of years I’ve had was that I stopped playing multiplayer games. Completely, totally stopped, to the point that I was almost phobic about them, even making excuses in order to avoid them both personally and professionally. Why? Well, “it’s complicated”, but I suspect it’s as simple (and pathetic) as not wanting to feel humiliated in front of strangers in the very likely event I played poorly, for fear it would compound my other various self-loathings and anxieties. Don’t I sound fun at parties, eh?

Now, I’m not going to claim that Titanfall is some miracle cure, or that the profundity of its multiplayer achievements puts all else in the shade. H However, I have, genuinely and very quickly, found that I can tread onto a server full of strangers without worrying about it and then have a fine old time, usually ending even a losing match feeling I achieved something of personal merit and often trembling slightly with adrenal excitement. The last multiplayer game which did that for/to me was Team Fortress 2. … [visit site to read more]

A portion of a NintendoLatino interview with Two Tribes' Collin von Ginkel. The translation below was given to us by NintendoLatino themselves.

Q: The sequel, Toki Tori 2 really demonstrates the versatility this particular franchise has. Creating a very lush world, with a certain open-endedness to it, all while maintaining the puzzle mechanics of the original. Where can Toki Tori go next?

A: Well, since Toki Tori 2+ didn’t perform as well as we had hoped, we’ve decided that we are not going to be making a new Toki Tori game, ever. He’ll be back in some Easter egg probably, but we are moving on and taking on other genres.

Coming from a USGamer interview with Keiji Inafune...

"I'm all-hands on this game, more than I should be. This is a game I really want to make, and I have a clear vision in my mind already. But it's almost like I shouldn't be this involved in one single game. The role I play in the company is the 'concepter.' I create an idea and I pass that on to the director and the team, to actually make the game. Occasionally I'll see if the direction is going the right way or not.

But on this game, I'm actually giving opinions or orders to the director about a single line or phrase. That's how much I want to make this game. It's very motivating to see the development, the progress we're making.

I know that the director actually hates me for this, but I can't help it. So far, we haven't seen any towels been thrown in the ring [by IntiCreates] yet. But we're not sure if that's going to happen yet."

Inafune also shared his very deep desire to make Mega Man Legends 3.

"If somebody asked, even right now, what's the game you want to create most? It's still Legends 3. I put so much effort into that game, so much passion into that game, but it didn't happen. It's always a regret in my mind. Even now…

We all know that's not going to happen, though, as long as Capcom holds the IP. But if they asked me to make that game, I could still gather most of the original team, even right now. Some of them have quit Capcom, some of them are still at Capcom, but I believe that team would be passionate enough to come back together and create that game. So…we'll see what's going to happen. You never know.

Let's say that, if we have all seven Dragon Balls right here, right now, and Shen Long comes up and says, 'What's your wish?' My wish would be, give me all the right tools, people, and environment to create Legends 3."

A portion of a C3 review...

AeternoBlade offers decent combat, platforming and puzzles that involve its time manipulation mechanic. Unfortunately, it is lacking polish, and several cheap segments later in the game can lead to unnecessary frustration. Its initial price of £13.50 is also quite steep, making it hard to recommend. Fans of 2D action-platformers, such as Castlevania, might still want to check it out, though.

Octodad: Dadliest Catch sold more than 90,000 copies on PC, Mac and Linux, and that is enough to keep developer Young Horses afloat through the end of the year with a lineup of full-time staff, CEO Philip Tibitoski told Joystiq at GDC. Before launch, the Young Horses team split their time between day jobs and development work, but now it's all Octodad, all the time.

"If it hadn't sold well, I'd be out looking for a job right now," Tibitoski said. "I don't have to worry any more."

The next step is a PS4 launch, scheduled for April. Fans on social media are eager to control a suited cephalopod with the DualShock 4, Tibitoski said, noting that some have vowed to buy it twice. And chances are, they will buy it - Young Horses has no plans to make Octodad a PS Plus free game. Tibitoski said a significant number of players expect Octodad to be free on PS Plus simply because it's an indie game on a Sony console, but that's not something the team wants. A launch sale, maybe.

It’s not a huge surprise. But it is interesting. Microsoft has lifted the lid on its latest graphics API, DirectX 12. And the big news isn’t a fancy new rendering technology. The big news is better performance. Just like AMD’s Mantle API, DX12 promises to reduce CPU loads when playing games by as much as 50 per cent. Intriguingly, DX12 is coming to the Xbox One and phones, too. Which brings us to the really good bit. It looks likely your existing graphics card will be compatible with DX12. … [visit site to read more]

- combat mode is a solo or co-op experience
- starts in a training room lined with dummy targets
- this room also has a platform that recharges your magic
- a door with rune symbols on it locks away the real challenge, which you can enter when ready
- right trigger lets you see a circle of weapons and map the ones you want to the Y or B buttons
- weapons include an enemy-seeking mine ball, a shotgun that shoots in a diamond formation, a boomerang, and a close-up attack that embeds a fucshia crystal in an enemy, which you then detonate into huge crystal splinters
- these attacks drain magic
- A is dash, and X is a sword slash
- left trigger displays magic and health bars, and your weapons
- local co-op only
- the rifle emits a thin beam that you hold down until the character flashes, and then you fire
- if you connect with a target, it will automatically die
- the diamond shotgun is useful against crowd
- the boomerang is strong against crowds as well
- the mine will follow enemies before it explodes
- explosions can hurt you and your partner
- the sword is reliable against grunts
- fight off a minotaur-esque creature, taller and wider than the grunts
- his special attack is jumping so high he disappears from the screen and then smashs down on the battlefield
- some enemies drop squares of magic to recharge your stones
- there are just four points of extra health on the map, one in each corner
- when either character gets close to death, the entire screen starts fading to black
- you can see how much health you have exactly with a quick press of the left shoulder button
- targeting late 2014/early 2015 for release
