We're going to have garden-themed nightmares thanks to this sound design-focused Alien: Isolation dev diary, which reveals that stomping on ripe vegetables sounds suspiciously similar to an alien sinking its teeth into people. And here we were just getting over our fear of asparagus. [Image: Sega]

PSA: Resistance PS3 trilogy going offline on April 8

Sony let us know last year that online play for the PS3's Resistance trilogy would end in early 2014, and a recent tweet from developer Insomniac Games has narrowed that ending date to April 8. Insomniac's post encourages fans to get online for the trilogy's final moments and "make some memories" with some of Insomniac's own employees.

In response to an inquiry about continuing online support for the Vita's Resistance: Burning Skies, Insomniac tweeted they're "not sure" about that game's potential loss of online play.

An optimist would take this as a significant withdrawal of the Chimera invasion, but with Sony's June 2012 statement that no Resistance games were in the works, it's a little sad to think we won't get another chance to fight back the invasive alien race. [Image: Insomniac Games]
Tsunku, responsible for Rhythm Heaven's music, diagnosed with Laryngeal cancer

Mitsuo Terada, also known Tsunku, has been diagnosed with Laryngeal cancer. This was announced on March 6th on the official website of the artist. Tsunku is a name you might know from the Rhythm Tengoku/Heaven series, as he has responsible for the music in those games. In the statement, he said that had something wrong with his left vocal cord for 7-8 years. It was causing issues with high pitches and it made his voice a bit huskier. He went in for an inspection in February and it was diagnosed as in being in early stages. He was surprised, but decided to accept it as a positive that he discovered it so early. Tsunku has been away for a while, because the treatment has been intense. He thanked the fans and assured them that he is mentally fit and ready. He plans to continue to work.

505 Games publishing Adrift, Three One Zero's trip to space gone wrong

Developer Three One Zero's first-person hardship simulator in space, Adrift, sounds less than forgiving. Unlike its protagonist however, Three One Zero will have company in the form of publisher 505 Games when Adrift launches into orbit in mid-2015, both on PC and to-be-determined consoles.

With no memory, a damaged suit and the surrounding clutter of a space station's remains, Adrift's protagonist doesn't have a ton of leisure time. In their push to fix an escape vehicle and return to Earth, players will guide their astronaut's gathering of resources and their search for clues to what caused the former shelter's demise. Players will also lead their character through the act of not dying in space.

Adrift will be Three One Zero's first title, a studio formed last September by Omar Aziz and Adam Orth. Previously a creative director at Microsoft's video game division, Orth's comments regarding always-online consoles sparked a strong backlash last year, leading to Microsoft apologizing for the "inappropriate comments." Reports of Orth's departure from Microsoft followed several days later. [Image: 505 Games]

A portion of a TGPS interview with Prismatic...

TGPS: hat will happen to Hex Heroes if the Kickstarter fails?

P: If the Kickstarter doesn’t succeed, we’ll reach out to publishers. It must be made clear, however, that if we resort to publishers, our freedom over the project will diminish greatly, and the sense of community we’ve developed with our backers and the vision we have for the core game will greatly diminish.
Prodigy blends tabletop and PC gaming, clears funding in 3 days

Fan of games like the Skylanders series and Disney Infinity, but hoping for something a bit less cartoony? Or maybe you just really need some new 60mm scale figures for your tabletop warchest? Prodigy from Hanakai Studio might be able to help you out. The game, which combines small-form figures with an electronic board and PC, was successfully funded on Kickstarter today, reaching its $100,000 goal in fewer than three days.

Prodigy takes place in a darker world than similar games, and is squarely focused on turn-based squad battles. Players place the figure of their choice onto a grid-like surface, which registers the character and displays it onscreen. You attack by placing a card onto the surface, or combine cards for special attacks or abilities. A piercing attack, for example, is activated when a player lays down an Attack and Focus card. You can see the game in action by checking out the pitch video above, or checking out the Prodigy Kickstarter page.

Hanakai has not announced any stretch goals for the funding campaign, but there are still plenty of higher reward tiers available. Got a spare $5,000 lying around? You can design your own character to be placed into the game. For $10,000, you can design the character, help conceptualize its figure, and meet the development team in Paris. Ah, Paris. The city of Sorcerer Kings.

Prodigy is expected to finish development by the end of 2015. [Image: Hanakai Studio]

RBI Baseball 14 swinging for XBLA's fences on April 9

Following a previous report that listed April 10 as RBI Baseball 14's opening day, an Xbox.com page has confirmed the series revival is up to bat on Xbox Live Arcade on April 9.

RBI Baseball 14 will channel the design elements of the previous RBI games, assigning players to one of three body types and limiting the input to two face buttons. The new season will include stops on the PS3, Xbox One, PS4, iOS and Android platforms.

MLB's Advanced Media division is developing and publishing RBI Baseball 14, but a price of admission to its ballpark has still not been revealed. The series debuted on the NES in 1986, but beyond RBI Baseball 14, its last outing was RBI Baseball 95 on the Sega 32x. [Image: MLB]

Halo co-creator gets $5 million investment for tablet shooter

Accel Partners has invested $5 million into Alex Seropian's startup studio, Industrial Toys. Seropian previously co-founded Bungie, where he acted as President and CEO during the creation of Halo: Combat Evolved. His new game, Midnight Star, looks to be something of a spiritual successor to the Halo games; a sci-fi first-person shooter (with some familiar imagery, judging by screenshots) for tablets.

Accel has previously invested in studios like Rovio (Angry Birds) and Supercell (Clash of Clans). A representative of the company told GamesBeat that the investment was "about the game," and that "[Industrial Toys] have a vision and focus on quality. They made their first product on a scrappy budget, but it is going to be very polished."

Seropian also commented to GamesBeat, saying that it seems "obvious" that core gamers will migrate from consoles to mobile platforms. [Image: Industrial Toys]

Viscera Cleanup Detail gets squeaky clean thanks to Steam Early Access

Viscera Cleanup Detail is now on Steam Early Access, allowing intrepid would-be space janitors the chance to shine (and polish, and scrub, and mop). Being an Early Access game, it has its share of issues and warnings. Developer RuneStorm cautions potential buyers that the game has network troubles and that everything is subject to change, and no feature is safe from the chopping block.

If that doesn't scare you away however, you can buy Viscera Cleanup Detail for $7.99. RuneStorm notes that the price will increase down the road, so if you want to save some money and go for the metaphorical fixer-upper car over the shiny new one, Early Access may be for you.

It's true, nothing cleans up blood and viscera off your floors, walls and PC quite like steam. Erm, not that we would know, officers. [Image: RuneStorm]
