Coming from a 4Gamer interview with Producer Takashi Iizuka...

You can see from our design of the DLC introduction page on our official site, we decided from the beginning that we would do three pieces of DLC. We are continuing to make it free, which is a bit difficult for SEGA, since both Yoshi’s Island Zone and The Legend of Zelda Zone were both in collaboration with Nintendo, but SEGA doesn’t have any kind of tradeout from there (note: means this next DLC is not being funded by another source).

If you've been wishing campfires would help give away the position of DayZ's, uh ... "spirited" brand of survivors at night, this might be your month! Developer Bohemia Interactive is planning on implementing a patch that gifts the destructive element to players, both for building campfires and igniting flammable objects. Reworked physics and player control are also planned, as is a fix to address messaging spam.

Citing strong fan feedback as an inspiration, Bohemia's patch will implement 1:1 movement between mouse controls and the head of a player's avatar. Weapons are planned to act differently, though - the more cumbersome a player's equipped bargaining tool is, the longer it will take to swing in a different direction and fire. A system will also be added to let players charge projectiles, be it an item or the arrow they're aiming from a bow.

Lastly, Bohemia hopes to fix a messaging problem where the "client and server 'spam' messages at each other, hoping that some of the messages get through." The studio believes this is the major hurdle in surpassing the 100-player limit per server. The fix is expected to appear on experimental servers sometime next week before appearing in this month's update.

No word yet on a patch to make the rest of DayZ's player base as awesome as (NSFW language) fire extinguisher guy. [Image: Bohemia Interactive]

Luftrausers from Vlambeer is full of fiction. Its name is a made up word, and the game takes place in an alternate history, set some 10 to 15 years after World War II. The game's imagery, however, from its maniacal scientists and sharp-dressed military officers to its skull-emblazoned logo, are evocative of the very real Nazi party of the mid 1940s. This has made some players uncomfortable, which Vlambeer co-founder Rami Ismail addressed on the company's site earlier today.

Ismail noted that, while he believes that no interpretation of a game is "wrong," he and his fellow developers did not intentionally place players into the role of a Nazi pilot. Instead, Ismail said the game was inspired by the period between 1900 and 1980 where opposing governments were "capable of determining whether an opposing military force was working on secret weapons, but not quite what those weapons were."

The goal of Luftrausers, according to Ismail, was to have players take control of such a weapon. The only way for this to make narrative sense was to have players play the bad guys - someone we were spying on. "The player is part of an undefined enemy force that was not on 'our' side during the six or seven decades in which military intelligence was effectively telling us to prepare for a laser-equipped hoverboat assault," Ismail wrote.

Ismail made it clear he was explaining the game's aesthetics, but not excusing them. Ismail and studio partner Jan Willem Nijman are natives to the Netherlands, which was invaded by the Nazis in 1940. "We are extremely aware of the awful things that happened," Ismail wrote, "and we want to apologise to anybody who, through our game, is reminded of the cruelties that occurred during the war." The son of famed vampire hunter Van Helsing is gearing up to slaughter a fresh bunch of monsters in The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing 2, Nerdcore Games' second entry in a planned trilogy. Properly planning for an action RPG outing takes time though, a resource Van Helsing Jr. now has - Nerdcore has pushed Van Helsing 2's release from April to May 22 for the sake of polish, which conveniently gives our protagonist enough time for a siesta.

Once the adventure continues, players will be able to align with one of three class types; the range and melee-proficient Hunter, the magic-savvy Thaumaturge and the Arcane Mechanic, a deadly-device specialist. The ghostly sidekick Lady Katarina returns to aid players, but aspiring hunters can bring up to three living friends along in a cooperative campaign, or sling attacks in a PvP mode that supports eight competitors total. Tickets for Valve's Dota 2 International 2014 Championship have sold out. Quickly. The event's roughly 10,000 tickets sold within an hour, according to what Valve's Doug Lombardi told Rod "Slasher" Breslau. Is it safe to say this game might be just a little popular?

Those hoping to make a trip to Seattle for the competition aren't totally out of luck; general admission tickets can be found on eBay for as low as $200, though that's still twice as much as their initial, non-secondhand $99 price tag. Those looking for some price comparisons should know that floor seating tickets were originally sold for $199, while VIP tickets were priced at $499.

The Dota 2 International 2014 will take place at the Key Arena in Seattle from July 18 to July 21. This is the International's fourth year in existence, with last year's International boasting a prize pool of more than $2.8 million, the largest in eSports history. The prize pool for this year's championship has not been finalized. [Image: Valve]
