By some extremely *crag*ing weird twist of fate, I decided to make a comparision shot of sorts today of my first drawing of Xavier and my current abilities. So I went to check when I uploaded my first drawing on imageshack. WHAT DO YOU KNOW! Almost a year ago today.

This character means a lot to me. It's the first time I'd actually taken the time to design and then create a character. It also represents a point in time when I began to seriously consider a career in not just visual arts, but all facets of creative media.

So gaiz...any better?

it does seem much better, though i wouldn't know, i suck at drawing.

I am waiting until I finish the game before making any judgements. Also, it's "New Super Mario Bros", not "New Super Mario World". It's design is more like SMB3 than SMW.

I played that level a few days ago and when I saw the Koopa coming down the stairs, I knew exactly why he was there. I'm sad that you can't go over 99 lives though and into the odd symbols like you could in the original SMB.

8-bit Left 4 Dead leaves modernity behind

Thanks to Eric Ruth and his PixelForce NES "de-make" of Left 4 Dead, we now have an idea of what the zombie apocalypse simulator would have been like had it released in the '80s. Valve is apparently aware of the project and finds the concept "hilarious." Ruth reveals that he plans to release the full game as a free download in early January 2010 for PC. It features all the campaigns from the original game, including 8-bit incarnations of the special infected, for two players to play through -- it is a NES game after all, fancy four-player didn't exist. Check out a video of the game after the break. The only thing we'd wish this "de-make" had was a sprite flickering zombie rush, so all the youngins could experience the glory of NES flicker when there were too many things on the screen at once for the system's 2KB of RAM.

They should put it up on Steam.
