Amon grew up in Zabr - a small Village in the canyon area of Zenit. He was orphaned at a young age when his parents never returned home from a raid. He started working as an artifact scavenger for his uncle and he quickly built a reputation for being one of the most fearless adventurers in all of Zenit. Before his parents left him, his mother gifted him with a strange compass which gives Amon the ability to control Amri and manipulate ancient mechanisms.

The following comments come from a CVG feature with Ryutaro Takahashi and Yoshio Sakamoto...

"Our biggest focus was how we could make the Tomodachi feel like real Western people. We knew the dialogue, animation and many features of these characters needed to change drastically.

"The dialogue of the characters for example is not just simple translation from Japanese; we have reviewed it so that it feels more natural. Regarding animation of characters - how they walk, nod, shake hands etc - we have adjusted those gestures in detail so that they match each territory.

"We also put lots of effort in the culture. One example is currency, which is adjusted in all versions to local currency. We've adjusted the actual pricing of items in each country as well so that it matches the real-life value.

"Finally, we've adjusted the facilities and locations that the Tomodachi can visit and also the seasonal events so that they will match the actual territories." - Ryutaro Takahashi
"Although the directions of the games are similar, we didn't receive any influence of input from Animal Crossing. Rather, we intentionally tried to remove their ideas from our heads when developing Tomodachi Life."

"We're not saying we do not want to become like Animal Crossing, but we wanted to create a very different sense from that game. If we couldn't do that, I think our original concept would have become vague or deluded. So I told Takahashi-san when developing the game that we should try not to think about or look at Animal Crossing." - Yoshio Sakamoto

A portion of a 4cr interview with Prismatic...

4cr: You’ve revealed several cameos for the game, including Juan from Guacamelee, Max from Mutant Mudds, and Rusty from SteamWorld Dig (to name a few). Are there more cameos in the works?

P: Lots more. And lots of surprises. We’ve kept backers updated on the development of Hex Heroes every day, because we just have that much to reveal. We’re quickly becoming an indie strategy Smash Bros. game.

The Dodgers and the Giants have the longest standing rivalry in baseball.

Over 2,300 matchups; only 22 wins separating the two teams.

In the tradition of this rivalry, MLB 14 The Show — in partnership with IGN — would like to start a new one…

Puig vs. Pence:

On Monday, April 14th at 11:00 AM Pacific, San Francisco Giants Right Fielder Hunter Pence and Los Angeles Dodgers Right Fielder Yasiel Puig will face off in MLB 14 The Show for PS4.

This special event — streamed LIVE from IGN HQ in downtown San Francisco — will feature two MLB superstars (and two of MLB’s biggest gamers) as they compete in various modes of the highly anticipated, next-generation baseball sim. The stream will deliver more than an hour of footage from the PS4 version of MLB 14 The Show, plus questions from the community for the athletes and also game designer Ramone Russell, who’ll be on hand to walk viewers through what they can expect from The Show on PS4.

Whether you’re a baseball fan, a fan of The Show, or even if your only interest is PlayStation, you won’t want to miss this.

Here’s a link to the stream, produced and broadcast by IGN, which will go live Monday morning.

The new Whistleblower DLC for Outlast slipped from April to May, but don't think you'll be safe for too long. The PC and PS4 asylum horror admits its first piece of additional content on May 6, although PS4 users in Europe get an extra day of sanctuary until May 7.

The unfortunate soul you play in Whisteblower is Waylon Park, a software engineer who's contracted to work at the Mount Massive Asylum prior to the events of the game. After seeing what unscrupulous things the staff's getting up to, Park feels compelled to expose the establishment to the press. If you've played Outlast, you of course know that his plan went perfectly and everybody lived happily ever after. Especially this (probably NSFW) guy. [Image: Red Barrels]

Over 70 percent of players fired up Grand Theft Auto 5's multiplayer GTA Online component in the months after the game's initial release, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told Fox Business in an interview this week.

"Just a few years ago when we put out a product, no matter how big, when we put out a hit we collected our money, we went onto the next," Zelnick said, addressing GTA Online's microtransaction-driven revenue model. "Now what we're finding is we're creating recurrent consumer spending and we have the gift that keeps on giving. I talked about that when we took over Take-Two six years ago. It's nice to see it coming true."

Grand Theft Auto 5 shipped 32.5 million units worldwide as of February, and earned over $1 billion in revenue during its three days at retail. Developer Rockstar Games continues to support GTA Online with frequent content updates, and a new job creation system is set to launch this Friday.

“I would not be exaggerating if I were to say I think this is the most influential month of development so far,” says Josh Parnell. I’ve been used to letting the Limit Theory dev diaries just play, letting gaming’s equivalent of Bob Ross talk and relax me. Perhaps that’s why I’m so happy the game is being made? He’s pulling some sort of high-level vocal massage trick. Well it didn’t work in this update, because he’s very excited about this month’s work on his Elite-like space game. It was the month where he decided to focus on simulating the economy: creating a swarm of NPCs ships in a single sector and examining how they react to supply and demand. He’s breathing life into his gorgeous universe.

(This post is about Road Not Taken, Spry Fox’s upcoming roguelike for the PS4 & PS Vita. If this is your first time hearing about RNT, check out our trailers here!)

PAX East is nearly upon us! We will be there, and for the first time ever, be making a playable demo of Road Not Taken publicly available for all to enjoy!

This may have triggered a wee bit of panic in our studio.

Suddenly, all the little bugs we’ve been ignoring demand attention. That crash that occasionally happens during the first mission? Must-fix! Slow loading times? Speed those suckers up!

Aside from fixing a boatload of bugs, we’ve also been spending a lot of time tweaking the first mission of the game, since that’s what most people will experience at PAX. Initially, we didn’t worry about it much. After all, we have a tutorial that we’ve revised at least a dozen times. The first mission just has to be “relatively easy” and all will be well, right?

rnt_blog_paxeast_tutorial.gif

Nope.

While the core mechanic of Road Not Taken is relatively simple, there are dozens of unusual objects and creatures you encounter in the game, and almost all have secrets to them. Initially, it was possible for many of those unusual objects and creatures to spawn inside mission one. We were reluctant to remove them because we were afraid it would make the game feel shallow and boring. But it turns out that immediately after going through the tutorial, a stripped-down mission one is exactly what most players want! They need more opportunity to practice the things they’ve learned. They want to know there are dozens of secrets in the game, but they want to experience pretty much all of those secrets a little later. Obvious in retrospect.

13746570594_97e2fa2e69_z.jpg

For example, in Road Not Taken, we’ve got some mysterious floating spirits that haunt the forest. They are the key to a bunch of cool tricks. They’re also a huge pain in the butt once you get really low on energy (at which point, they convert into “doom spirits” and hunt you down.) They were blowing our playtesters’ minds in mission one, so we’ve pushed them out to mission two. Now playtesters seem intrigued by them instead of overwhelmed. Mission accomplished.

rnt_blog_paxeast_spirit.gif

We’re working day and night to continue polishing the demo in preparation for PAX. It’s nerve-wracking, exciting, exhausting and exhilarating. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been up to! :-)

What does the Spry Fox say Audio Contest!

In related news, we’ve also been adding a bunch of new creatures to the game. One of those creatures is very close to our heart:

rnt_fox_contest_anim.gif

Yep, there’s a spry fox in Road Not Taken! But there’s just one problem… we don’t know what he says! So we’re holding a contest for the best fox sound! Check out our contest announcement video:

Contest submissions will appear on our YouTube channel. Submissions with more likes will have a higher chance of winning, so check back often to check out the competition or like your favorite entries!

For the full details about how to participate in the contest, terms of participation, and more, please visit our blog. This contest is created and managed exclusively by our studio, Spry Fox. Sony is not affiliated.
