OnLive launched CloudLift last month, a service that lets users stream its selection of games from capable machines to devices that wouldn't normally be able to play them - think tablets and underpowered computers. CloudLift used to cost $14.99 a month, but that subscription fee has been slashed to $7.95, presumably because price drops are awesome.

Saints Row 4, Batman: Arkham Origins and The LEGO Movie Videogame serve as highlights among Cloudlift's offerings, all of which can be streamed from Steam if you own copies of the games there. Given that your interest in Cloudlift likely depends on whether the service stands up to your expectations, you can try a free 7-day trial by finding CloudLift in the OnLive application's Market. Five years ago, Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor became an instant classic in the iPhone games library. The moody, wordless experience turned players into multi-legged predators wending their way into creepy environments and a foreboding meta-story. That game's sequel won't just be debuting on iOS; it'll be on Android, PC, Mac and Linux. It might even show up on consoles. And when Spider: Rite of the Shrouded Moon comes out, it'll be pulling in the real world with it.Read more...

The following info comes from Red Fly CEO Dan Borth...

“Not on purpose, we carved out that we were the Wii guys. They wanted [the Wii port of Force Unleashed II] to be better, but didn’t know what to do really. We built a demo in two weeks with little assistance from LucasArts. Neil Garrett, their head of external production, thought we should do it.

The project moved quickly – way too fast for LucasArts to give us art assets in a timely manner. So we built almost everything from scratch. They kind of kept us on the hook. They told us Force Unleashed III was coming, and there were some rumors we might actually get the next-gen versions to prove ourselves worthy, but they just kind of dismissed us as, ‘You are just the Wii guys. You can’t do that.’ When publishers look at you, you have to fit into their wheelhouse or you don’t get the job.

I got a call from Paul, and he asked me if I would be interested in making a Darth Maul game. I was like ‘Yes, of course, of course.’ They signed us to a contract that was basically, ‘You guys start working on ideas, start working on demos, start working on mechanics.’ It wasn’t really a game contract; it was more like a work-for-hire, month-to-month thing. We started to flesh out our ideas and content and stuff like that. I think after about three or four months we entered into the game contract. It got intimate pretty quick.”

Horror games tend to create chilling atmospheres, but the unsettling moments within them are often pre-meditated or scripted. The spooks in Broken Window Studios' Grave may be a bit more freeform than that - the Oculus Rift-compatible trek through an open-world desert environment on PC, Mac, Linux and Xbox One isn't entirely predictable. The layout of Grave's environment shifts with each passing night, making navigation less about checking off rooms on a map and more about exploring and staying prepared for the world's threats.

Of course, the night's blanketing darkness hides Grave's danger, a threat that players can fend off with sources of light. Each progressively-generated sunset brings out a variety of enemies, which players can either stand bravely against during evening strolls, or use light-based weaponry to fend off while stowing away in shelters. Supplies are limited though, so shying from valuable exploration time will eventually backfire.

Broken Window is currently seeking funding to make Grave possible, with $8,751 out of the requested $30,000 gathered at the time of this writing. Should the project clear its goal, the creatures in Grave's everchanging world will start stalking players in early 2015, with backers that chip in $60 or more getting access to a beta before then. If you're willing to wait until Grave is finished, contributing $15 gets you the story version, with $20 earning an endless "Survive The Night" mode. If you're still uncertain, an early PC demo of Grave is available on the project's Kickstarter page. [Image: Broken Window Studios]

Usually, games that happen beyond Earth's atmosphere take you to planets teeming with life. Meeting creatures with tentacles where hair or hands should be or with strangely angled mandibles isn't uncommon in sci-fi games. But, none of that happens in Elegy for Dead World, which we got a chance to see at PAX East this year. Everything that ever lived on these planets is long-deceased and you have to tell the cosmos what you think happened to them. And you have to use poetry to do it.Read more...

A Homeworld Remastered Collector's Edition is prepping for landing, developer Gearbox announced at its PAX East 2014 panel today. The special edition will include, among other things, a replica statue based on the game's Mothership, pictured above. The figure stands at more than 12 inches tall, is USB-powered, and lights up.

Gearbox polled fans last month asking what they'd like to see in a Collector's Edition, and it looks like people chose "big spaceship." Can't say we blame them. [Image: Sierra Entertainment]

A portion of a C3 interview with Prismatic's Chris Jennewein and Mario Castañeda...

Cubed3: How would single player work? Would there be a central storyline/campaign feature?

Chris: Campaign mode would essentially be a collection of story driven missions based off the modes we have set in place. As the project grows and we're able to add more modes, the campaign mode grows as well. Regarding single player, the premise we're working with is that the GamePad still controls the classic RTS, but also fills the role of up to 2 players on the TV. They'll have to switch between their characters to manage everything at once - something very similar to Pikmin 3.

Cubed3: Would you consider portable platforms like Nintendo 3DS for a port or possible extra screen for multiplayer?

Mario: It's been talked about. Right now, Unity doesn't support the 3DS, but if it ever does, it's something we would easily consider. The way we're laying the foundation to the game makes it easy to scale to less powerful hardware.

Coming from an Engadget interview with Sony's Shuhei Yoshida...

"The first time was because I had my Twitter account in my profile and that's against the rules. The second time is because I wrote, 'I love PS.' You're not supposed to promote a commercial product in MiiVerse, so they correctly interpreted 'PS' as 'PlayStation.'"

Sounds like Yoshida took the bannings all in stride. Let's hope he manages to avoid a third ban!

"You know, I used to be [a gamer] so much. When systems first came out I was all over regular Nintendo [the NES], Super Nintendo, Sega, N64. My N64 was the only thing I couldn't live without in college. Into my 20s I still played a lot of Mario Kart but I kind of just tapered off and now I find that I have too much to do in real life to sit down and explore a videogame." - Actress Kristen Bell

I don't know about you, but I think making time to partake in the things you enjoy is an important part of life! No matter how hard you work, you should always find at least a small amount of time to entertain yourself. Maybe Kristen will come to learn that and get back into gaming!
