Tiny teams making incredibly ambitious games seems like the most thrilling aspect of the latest wave of indie games. And nothing is more ambitious that sci-fi action world-builder thing Starforge. It’s literally incredible, as in actually challenging our capacity to be credulous. It’s made by two guys, who call themselves Codehatch. We talked to them.(more…)

We’ve mentioned the astonishingly ambitious sci-fi combat and building game StarForge before, but now it requires a special nod, because the team behind it are trying to raise some money. Based on the extraordinary range of things they’ve already achieved – take a look at the video below for an illustration of that – I would say these are gents who deserve an even break. Any development team that tries to sell its crowd-sourcing efforts with a video of a multi-blade chainsaw fight on a spacecraft floating above a planet, ending with one of the characters plunging into the clouds below, gets my vote. You can even register on their site to download a WIP alpha build of the game, and see how they are getting on.

In the meantime, watch.(more…)

It's a sort of Minecraft/Terraria/Fort Wars game, but they appear to be pushing the boudaries somewhat. Little rough around the edges from the looks of the video, but nothing particularly hard to fix. I'm gonna download their current release and see how well it plays.

I'm excited, not only for how *crag*ing awesome this game looks but the fact it's already leagues better than minecraft in every way possible.

I don't think that the physics-based movement needs removing, rather it just needs some improvement - this is still a very early build of the game, they have plenty of time to get all the problems worked out.

#indie StarForge is quite the thing. Fire it up and you think it's a shooter. Run around and you find there's nothing to shoot. Go to switch weapons and...oh. Oh. More »

This morning I received an email telling me that the first playable build of StarForge was available. It’s a free first-person game of blocks and building inspired by the usual suspects, Minecraft and Terraria…and Warcraft 3, Borderlands and Halo. Something a little different to what I expected then, so I figured I’d at least watch the video that came with the press pack. Six and a half minutes later I was wondering how to put my excitement into words. Thirty seconds after that I decided to forget words and just share the bloody video. Watch.
