A portion of a G4 review… As the 11th game in the series, Other M is a bizarre collaboration between the Metroid series co-creator Yoshio Sakamoto and Team Ninja of Ninja Gaiden fame. Indeed, “odd pairings” becomes the common thread throughout the game and its clashing dualities extend to the storyline, control scheme and onscreen action. Full [...]

Guitar controller-compatible time-reversing rhythm shmup ... thing Retro/Grade may not be arriving on PSN until next year, but PAX attendees will be granted an early look at it during the convention this year. But what if you can't make it to Seattle? You'll have to settle for this new trailer, which highlights the game's rather unusual premise. Still don't get it? The final game promises a tutorial mode "to help people wrap their minds around our time bending concepts."

Honestly, it seems like we'll need it.

As evidenced by the trailer posted below, Cabela's North American Adventures might just be the least kid-friendly entry into the franchise. Not because it lets you shoot animals, mind you. No, we're talking about the hunter's newfound proclivity for making woodland creature snuff films.

Are you in the process of packing the items necessary for survival during your upcoming trip to the Penny Arcade Expo? You might want to consider adding Proxima Labs' "The Conventionist" to your list. The free iPhone app includes a full, interactive schedule for each day of the expo, a map of the convention center and the ability to browse through both while offline. Which is fortunate, since large crowds of tech-savvy people have a tendency to wreck your phone's 3G functionality.

Best of all, the app can be updated to provide support for other conventions as well. We sure hope the the 2010 Des Moines Apple Butter Festival makes the cut! We always get lost between the cider mill and the ol' birch tree.

You may think that reading your StarCraft 2 fanfic on YouTube is the only conceivable way Blizzard's RTS could transcend the realm of video games into TV or film entertainment -- but it's actually something Blizzard has considered for a while. The possibility is predicated upon finding the right person for the job.

"We've always had an interest in seeing our stuff on film or TV. It's just tricky to find the right partners," Blizzard's Rob Pardo told MTV Multiplayer. "We probably could have made a [StarCraft] movie or something on TV years and years ago, but it's really important to us that we find creative people that are really talented but also really excited about our properties. That's always been the challenge for us. I think if Jim Cameron came to us tomorrow and said, 'You want to make a StarCraft movie?' we'd probably sign that."

But we wouldn't suggest getting your hopes up: the World of Warcraft movie has been in limbo for a while now, so we wouldn't expect to see a StarCraft flick anytime soon. We will concede, though, that writing a StarCraft movie has got to be easier than writing a film about millions of dudes pretending to be chicks while cybersexing at the Inn. There's just no character progression there.

If you live in Los Angeles and love God of War, you're in luck. Sony is getting the directors of all of the God of War games so far -- that's David Jaffe, Cory Barlog, Stig Asmussen, Ru Weerasuiya and Dana Jan, for those of you keeping score -- together this Wednesday in the City of Angels to film a documentary extra for the upcoming Ghost of Sparta preorder bundle, and it's inviting the public to watch.

Starting at 4:00 p.m. PDT on September 1, fans can arrive at the El Portal theater in North Hollywood, and the first 150 on the scene (which means you better show up early) will get seats to see the show. You can RSVP on the Facebook page (though it doesn't appear that you have to -- it's just first come, first served) and you must be 18+ or accompanied by a parent to enter. Sony's also promising "gifts and prizes for all in attendance," so if you make it in, you'll probably get to take something home, too. We mean besides the insight and wit of David Jaffe and company.

We've got it on good authority that sometime this Holiday season, Microsoft will launch a new Xbox 360 controller with a rather unique d-pad. According to our trusted source, when one rotates the d-pad ninety degrees on this new controller, it'll raise up about a quarter of an inch -- a modification apparently revealed to be targeted at fighting game fans.

Could it be a version of that nifty (yet ugly) European controller tie-in for Pro Evo 2009? Will it replace the new Xbox 360 S controller (pictured above)? Or will it be a separate, special controller? We've got plenty of questions and will try to dig up some more info, so stay tuned.

In the latest issue of GamesTM, Criterion Games creative director Alex Ward dishes news on a Skate or Die remake that EA offered his studio back in 2002, which was eventually canned by Criterion. This, Ward says, soured relations between the developer and EA for some time, effectively killing Criterion's pitch on a Need for Speed title -- titled "Need for Speed: Split Second," if you can believe it. "We called a meeting with the EA guys, told them we were walking away [from Skate or Die] and they went mad," Ward said. "threatening to sue us, put us out of business ... there was a lot of anger and frustration. Then we got a call from the Need For Speed guys and they said 'we can't work with you guys any more; you just walked away and there's a shame on your company, so we can't talk to you.'"

Though the pitch was killed, Criterion instead got to work on developing its Burnout series and is now developing another reboot for EA: Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. It also appears that the direction in which Skate or Die's remake was going -- a more realistic, simulation-style skateboarding game -- eventually became EA's Skate franchise. "I wanted to explore what it was like to just go out for a skate and have that feeling of just doing whatever you want. There was that experience from when I went skating in real life that just wasn't captured in videogames. I wanted to be able to get off the board," says Criterion dev Craig Sullivan. There are said to be many more interesting tidbits in the issue, which hits newsstands on September 5.
