You've seen the frame-rates and resolutions for Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, now see the frame-rates and resolutions in Konami's new comparison video. Rather than dwell on the differences in p between Xbox One and PS4, it focuses on cross-gen enhancements between PS3 and PS4, and Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

One thing it doesn't touch on is the price difference. When the prologue to MGS5: The Phantom Pain hits on March 18, a download version will set you back $20 on Xbox 360 and PS3, and $30 on PS4 and Xbox One, with physical copies priced at $30 and $40 respectively.

I got about an hour into an Amnesia Let’s Play before deciding there were other ways to spend my time. A friend had to sit with me for the majority of Outlast, or I never would have got through it. So take it as the highest compliment, or the lowest evaluation of my character, when I say I look forward to probably never fully experiencing sea-bound run-away-’em-up Monstrum. Yes, that Doom game that id's been working on forever will apparently have a beta, and those who pre-order Wolfenstein will get into it. Also, I guess it's not called Doom 4 anymore?

Order up! The next installment in the Wolfenstein series, The New Order, launches on May 20 in North America and on May 23 in Europe, publisher Bethesda Softworks has announced. Wolfenstein: The New Order is the first game from developer MachineGames, founded in 2009 by exiting members of Riddick-dev Starbreeze.

Bethesda also revealed that pre-ordering The New Order will net players an invite to a beta for Doom, which a Bethesda representative tells Joystiq is "the next Doom game from id Software." Developer id Software first announced a new installment in the franchise, at the time titled Doom 4, in May 2008. Since then, id has muttered nary a word about the next game - save for today's news that, yes, it's still in development. Bethesda promises more information on the beta, which has not been dated, on its official site.

Wolfenstein: The New Order focuses on narrative, eschewing a multiplayer mode in favor of a story that revolves around an alt-history 1960s where the Nazi regime had been victorious in their monstrous World War 2 campaign.

The New Order will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC alongside Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions.

DOOM is coming but it might well not be called DOOM 4 anymore. I think DOOM 3 was a reboot but perhaps it’s not too early for another. Bethesda send word that preordering the new and spectacularly ridiculous Wolfenstein game will secure access to the beta for the next game in iD’s aged series. Presumably that’s DOOM 4, or the artist formerly known as Doom 4. It’s a game that has been far more clandestine than its title suggests would be possible. But, yes, this means that DOOM is happening and presumably happening at some point in the near(ish) future. There’s no word on when the beta will open up but Wolfenstein: The New Order comes out on May 20th/23rd, depending on which side of the Pond you live on. There’s a new trailer below. It made me feel a bit queasy.

Hey there, Johan from Arrowhead here. I’m excited to give you an update on how Helldivers is coming along since our announcement at Gamescom in August. For those of you who haven’t seen much of the game – Helldivers is a top-down, twin stick shooter set in a dystopian world, coming to PS4, PS3 and PS Vita this year. As a part of an elite fighting force “The Helldivers,” you battle for humanity against 3 formidable alien races, protecting the inhabitants of Super Earth from the ugly realities of intergalactic warfare. But how did this ugly war begin? Hmm…

Intergalactic campaign

Helldivers is all about team work, the entire community wages a intergalactic war played out over 4-6 weeks (we are still tweaking the exact time frame), every victory and every defeat impacts the war which can be either won or lost, depending on the efforts of you – the community.

Whether you’re cooperating with your 2-4 person squad or fighting steadfastly alone, you choose the mission that matches your capabilities. Rise through the ranks and earn new weapons and perks or save entire planets for that most valuable asset: the Stratagems.

12622045125_e3e8cb1d59_z.jpg

Say Hello to the Cyborg

Up to this point, we showed you one of the enemy races in the game, the Bugs. In addition to the Bugs, Super Earth is also at war with the socio-feudal Cyborg Nation, a race of bionically augmented separatists that once were part of the Super Earth federation, but now have declared their sovereignty. The Cyborg’s heavy armor and projectile weaponry presents the Helldivers with a very different tactical challenge, where the “fire & maneuver” doctrine is of essence.

12622043755_86aa569cf1_z.jpg

Cold as Ice

At Gamescom, we showed you the desert environment, and today, we’re unveiling the second environment – ice. Not only do you need to band together to fight the alien races, you need to stay on your toes to tackle the dynamic environments that dictate your fighting techniques. Beware, if you wander from the solid rock to the deep powder, your squad will need to trudge through the snow, slowing you down and rendering retreat impossible.

12622474664_054bb11a72_z.jpg

Strategize with Strategems

Probably the most essential part of the game (aside from your comrades) are strategems. Each player selects their load-out prior to the mission, containing up to four support strategems of their choosing. Called in by the player, stratagems are key to deciding the outcome of battle, a few of my current favorites are automated the defense turrets, napalm, heavy artillery for busting tanks and jump packs. One thing with Helldivers that never seems to get old is the bickering and strategic talks when selecting the stratagem composition with your team.

Yes, There’s Mechs!

To tackle some of the unforgiving environments and challenging foes, Helldivers have a fleet of advanced vehicles – the most frequently deployed is a mechanical armored biped that wreaks absolute havoc. The standard mech is equipped with a Gatling gun and a grenade launcher pod.

12622044085_ea30be0e5c_z.jpg

Remember, all of the weapons in Helldivers are very powerful to counter the tough alien races that mankind faces, as such almost all weapons can tear a man in half. In the heat of battle, nobody is safe.

Watch out for Helldivers, available for PS3, PS Vita and running in beautiful 1080p and 60 fps on PS4, later this year.

At last, we can reveal the Fun Fair to the world! It’s the level we’ve worked on the longest, and its roots can be traced all the way back to the first prototype of the game we showed back in 2011.

12525171525_69528f285f_z.jpg

Back then, it was a no-fun fair. It was a place of danger, a beautiful and colorful city, but one that was under attack from a mysterious enemy. Bombs rained down on the town and its peaceful citizens. Your job was to collect these hapless denizens and ferry them to an awaiting boat.

Three years have passed and the city is no longer under threat; it has been rebuilt and expanded. The original citizens are back and enjoying more peaceful times… but not quite, as the Fun Fair has come to town!

12525172105_03217d1c29_n.jpg12525171895_35dff32778_n.jpg

This is one of the most frantic and hectic places that you will visit.
You will be FLUNG at high velocity into dizzying, concentric trajectories by the SPIROGRABBERS!
You will be SCARED BEYOND WITLESS by the terrifying and not at all cute GHOSTLY TRAIN!
You will be THOROUGHLY FERRISED by the magnificent FERRIS WHEEL.
…and if you like sushi, prize vegetables, juvenile birds, mythical reptiles, headless horses, and multi-limbed deities you will NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.*

You can probably tell that we have a special fondness for this bit of our game, as when we first started figuring out what Hohokum would become, this was the first stuff we made. The characters are still our favorites: they are urbane, cosmopolitan, and quite daft. Amongst them are Oven Gloves, Colonel Gandihar, Super Insulated Girl, and the one who is known simply as “The Cruiser” — see if you can guess which is which.

12525286643_ddfab3af72_n.jpg12525171935_1d75548514_n.jpg

The city itself is inspired, in part, by the curious town of Portmeirion in North Wales. Built by Clough Williams-Ellis, you probably know it from “The Prisoner” TV series. He was inspired by the charming architecture of northern Italy, and so were we, but also by the building blocks of our toddler years. So we conceived a modular system, different to anything else in the game: a kit of columns, arches, verandas, and cupolas, which we stacked up to create the Fun Fair’s bustling arcades and dizzying spires.

So what about these bombs that rained down on the gentle residents? Looking back, it seems weird to us that we put bombs and explosions into Hohokum. I guess we were making a video game and we thought that video games generally have explosions in them, so perhaps ours should, too. We were wrong. The more Hohokum has grown, the more we realized that stuff like this has no place in our game. No one gets blown up in Hohokum (Well ok, there is that one epic naval battle, but you’d hardly notice it.).

We hope you like the Fun Fair. Our advice: stay away from the balloon seller. He’s a bad man.

*and if you have a specific penchant for umbrellas and parasols, this is also the place for you.

As a writer for Rock, Paper, Shotgun I am contractually obliged to know absolutely nothing about the series that Capcom are most recently rebooting. Previously consigned purely to the arcades and consoles, protagonist Strider Hiryu and his menagerie of robots was firmly beyond my grasp. I was disallowed any knowledge of his wall-hanging, ninja-running, platform-jumping ways and any investigation into the original late 80s arcade game, which this remake is based on, was redirected to Monkey Island Studies. Thank goodness for other people’s nostalgia, as from today the pyjama-clad death machine is available on Steam with a launch trailer below, if you’re quick enough.

The FPS legend that started it all returns this May! Today we’re excited to announce that Wolfenstein: The New Order will arrive on both PS4 and PS3 on Tuesday, May 20th. And while we’re not talking about the game yet, we’re excited to announce that with a pre-order of Wolfenstein: The New Order, you will be able to access the beta for the next DOOM game (details at Wolfenstein.com/DOOM).

Wolfenstein marks the first Bethesda-published game to arrive on PS4, and will be available on PlayStation Store day 1 for both PS4 & PS3. Developed by MachineGames, a studio comprised of a seasoned group of developers recognized for their work creating story-driven games, Wolfenstein: The New Order is a reimagining of the FPS franchise from id Software. The game offers a deep narrative packed with action, adventure and first-person combat rendered in stunning detail with id Software’s id Tech 5 engine. And typical of a classic Wolfenstein game, expect plenty of hidden secrets, too.

12618712534_40673a6648.jpg12618407123_454ed5960f.jpg

Wolfenstein: The New Order once again centers around the series’ iconic war hero, B.J. Blazkowicz, faced with an alternate version of the 1960s in which the Nazis won World War II. As the only man capable of rewriting history, BJ will (with the help of a small group of resistance fighters) infiltrate their most heavily guarded facilities, battle high-tech Nazi legions, and take control of super-weapons that have conquered the earth – and beyond. See the game in action on our official YouTube channel.

There are plenty of new details to share about Wolfenstein: The New Order, and we’ll be keeping you up to speed on BJ Blazkowicz’s new adventure here on PlayStation.Blog.

There's a very tempting collection on sale over at Humble Bundle right now. Humble Indie Bundle 11 tosses together four indie treasures: Guacamelee, Dust: An Elysian Tail, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams and The Swapper. Pay more than the average and you'll also get Antichamber and Monaco: What's Yours Is Mine.

Guacamelee is Drinkbox Studios' lucha libre-inspired action platformer, while Dust: An Elysian Tail is Dean Dodrill's beautifully-animated action role-playing game. Giana Sisters, from Black Forest Games, is a difficult 2D platformer, The Swapper is a lauded puzzle game built around a cloning device, Antichamber is a psychological first-person exploration game and Monaco is all about pulling off heists with up to three other buddies.

This bundle will be live for the next two weeks, and the Humble Bundle folks assure us new games will be added before the sale period ends. In order to secure those additional games, you'll need to pay beyond the average - which is hovering around $4 as of right now. [Image: Drinkbox Studios]

I was recently show a few scenes from 'Zero Point,' a 360-degree film for the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset. Here's what I thought:
Above: Mirror's Edge Movies and video games complement one another, except when they bust out the classic insults: one's 'videogamey' and the other is so 'cinematic.' 'Just like a video game' has long been the pejorative comparison from the movie critic, shifting in his seat when nothing in the computer-generated scene is real, not even the point. Video games are shorthand for too big, too loud and too stupid. Before you savage this critic and HOW DARE HE and so forth, we game critics are just as guilty of citing films among a game's successes and failures. Oh, this game is exquisitely cinematic - a groveling platitude that seems to put games one rung down as the medium that wishes it were a movie. And this game over here? Too movie-like, and a bad flick that doesn't even have the decency to let you jump around in it like an idiot. The conversation becomes more interesting when you introduce an exciting technology like Oculus Rift, the virtual reality headset that's rocketed into visibility with every new user-turned-believer. Though a consumer model is on the way, most of the buzz has come from the increasingly-refined developer kits and the software created by talented individuals and companies who envision the Oculus Rift as the next step in 3D exploration, combat, disembodiment and unforeseen vomiting. Some people get sick from it, unfortunately.

Infamous: Second Son is one of the first major PS4 exclusives to come to the console since it launched some three months ago, so it's kind of a big deal for Sony. That's why its Euro branch is chucking an Infamous sale at PSN users ahead of the game's launch next month.

If you're totally new to Sucker Punch's elemental open-world action series, but you do want in on the whole caboodle, then the Infamous Collection offers the best value.
