Yesterday I spoke t' two people about Dungeon Siege III. One claimed that playing the demo be such an agonising experience that she cancelled the wench preorder, the other boldly stated that it be the finest ARPG a it be time. I be tempted t' make them fight it out by furiously clicking on one another but it didn’t seem right. Not in the real world. Today, there be news a a big chunk a DLC due in October. ye’ll have t' shell out for this, around $9.99, but it does sound there’ll be a healthy amount a content. That’s if ye consider searching for treasure 'n ruins in a desert full a monsters healthy. New monsters 'n bottles a rum be par for the course, but there’s more! An enchanting system will allow ye t' make yer shiniest loot even more shiny 'n ye’ll also be able t' respec yer character. Cue cries a: “It best have been in the base game!” No word if there’ll be a further patch for us PC folk alongside the DLC. Personally, I stopped playing the game before the keybinding patch so don’t know how much that did t' improve things. Any thoughts?

  • Fixed an issue with certain graphic cards where it would occasionally display large black pixels in the middle a the screen.
  • Fixed a potential crash when players try t' reconnect after disconnecting during a conversation.
  • We've implemented a fix that will revert the A/D reversed issue for people that be still reporting this issue.
  • Fixed a potential crash when players would join a Multiplayer game in a certain order.

The third siege a dungeons arrived a little while back, with Obsidian taking the reins a the Gas-Powered Games-created loot’n'kill fandango. I’ve been frantically clicking me mouse button at it for the last few days – an act which I have now transformed into some words.

First point a interest for me in any dungeon crawler: can I summon animals? Silently beating up monsters in rock corridors gets pretty lonely, after all. Also, I’m really very lazy – if there’s some companion animal doing half the damage for me I don’t need t' press so many number keys.

Dungeon Siege III delivers on this front, at least. me stocking-wearing gunwoman can summon a spectral hound t' antagonise foes while she snipes them from afar. On top a that, one a the AI-controlled companions (only one a which ye can have with ye at any one time) can summon a flaming hound. It’s doggy carnage out there.

Much as the blooming a the crocuses signals the arrival a Spring, so too does the blooming a complaint-filled sea threads seem t' signal the arrival a a new Obsidian-developed game.

All this man wanted be proper mouse-'n-keyboard controls in Dungeon Siege III. Now, just look what he's been reduced t': A stock photograph a a man angry at a computer.

In this case, the complaints pertain t' Dungeon Siege III, Obsidian's take on the classic dungeon crawling RPG series that saw release earlier this week. While the general response t' the game has been mostly decent, many PC players reported dissatisfaction with the PC version's mouse-'n-keyboard control scheme, which eschews many a the dungeon crawling genre standards t' the point where some purists deemed the situation untenable, 'n just picked up a gamepad (which, by all accounts, works far better).

Lead designer Nathan Chapman be apparently well aware a players' issues with the control scheme, 'n in talking t' Eurogamer this morning, explained that Obsidian plans t' update the control scheme in the near future t' something more traditional.

Actually this be one thing I would have liked t' have spent more time on, 'n we be actually spending time on now. Basically, I think as long as PC gamers have a good way t' control the combat they will enjoy it. One review - I can't remember which - said if ye play with a game pad the combat be great, so right now we be working on improving the PC controls through an update.

Though there's no immediate timetable for this update's release, it sounds like Obsidian be already hard at work on it. What say ye, Giant Bomb PC community? be ye looking forward t' a new mouse-'n-keyboard scheme? Or be ye okay with what be originally offered?

Obsidian lead designer Nathaniel Chapman has stated in an interview with Eurogamer that the developers be currently working on a patch t' improve the PC version a Dungeon Siege 3‘s keyboard 'n mouse controls. I’ve yet t' play the PC version a DS3, but I be witness t' Alec’s agitated bellowing about the PC controls (among other things), so I’m going t' go ahead an assume that this be a good thing.(more…)

This? Right here? This be how it best be done. A whole ten days ('n eight hours) ahead a Dungeon Siege 3′s release, Square Enix 'n Obsidian have put out a demo on the game’s Steam page. BOOM! That be the sound a assorted expectations being blown out a the water.

It’s especially handy seeing as it’s only in playing DS3 that ye learn just how much they’ve changed the Dungeon Siege formula into something slower, with a greater emphasis on decisions, action 'n co-op play, 'n less a an emphasis on loot, donkeys 'n scenery. The demo contains “a small taste a Dungeon Siege III’s single-player 'n 2-person local co-op modes (co-op requires two controllers)”, but I’ll be able t' pillage more specific in about 1.5 gigabytes’ time.

Does every game have t' have a comic now? I don’t mind a comic, but sometimes I just want the game, 'n none a this stringing myself along with prequel content 'n backstory in a different medium. Anyway, I’m probably being a miserabilist. So there’s a Dungeon Siege III tie-in comic due from Dark Horse, spanning three issues – this be good news if ye’re into DS lore, I guess.

ye pillage a full-length print copy if ye pre-order the game from certain stores (Wal-Mart specifically; not sure about non-US territories yet) or ye can read one a it be two 10-page stories for free on the magic internet here. ye’ll need t' create a Dark Horse Digital account. best ye bother? No, not really. It’s just pretty bland exposition 'n plot setup for the game, really. But it’s free! That’s important, right?
