Dreamfall Dev Debuts ‘Gone Home Meets Amnesia’ Draugen

It’s easy to forget that Red Thread Games is working on anything other than Dreamfall Chapters because, well, Dreamfall Chapters. But last year, the viking-est man in game development, Ragnar Tornquist, and his band of merry yarn-spinners announced first-person survival horror adventure Draugen, which does not sound much like Dreamfall at all. Tornquist has instead opted to plant its ragged bones between Gone Home and Amnesia, a description that has me quite intrigued indeed. Debut trailer below.

John Carmack Speaks Out In Support Of Oculus/Facebook

Depending on which vomit-and-time-encrusted pub on the edge of the Internet you walk into, Facebook’s $2 billion purchase of Oculus Rift is either the worst or most worthy of cautious optimism thing to ever happen. Many developers are on board with the idea. Notch, however, is not. Oculus’ most recognizable faces – all of which now presumably sport company-mandated books – are quite pleased, but what of the notoriously opinionated (if not exactly outspoken) John Carmack? The former id Software tech guru has always marched to the beat of his own drum, so a corporate overlord like Facebook might not seem like his cup of perfectly optimized (for both flavor and caffeination) tea. But if there’s one thing Carmack is always good for, it’s surprises.

The following info comes from Watch_Dogs Creative Director Jonathan Morin...

- says the game looks 'very good' for current-gen
- the game had a dedicated team working on current-gen from the beginning
- You can rob pawn shops
- this will give you varying amounts of money, but you lose reputation
- NPCs will investigate situations, fight and also do other things
- NPCs also have to deal with any hackings you throw their way
- you can hack so much that you can actually make NPCs do things for you in a roundabout way
- AI is more advanced than in the usual open world games
- this is because the chain of events they have to deal with is more complex
- online invasion of other players’ games can even result in 20-30 minutes of “epic chase”
- the city is big, but also dense with plenty to do
- normal foes dies quickly, requiring just 2-3 bullets or a headshot
- there are other enemies that require more offense to take down
- cars have cockpit view because

Leuvision talks future eShop releases, what happens if Twisted Fusion's Kickstarter fails

A portion of a NE interview with Leuvision...

NE: Speaking of your previous works, have you considered bringing any of your mobile titles to Wii U?

L: I have a few games I think would work well as cheap eShop games and after Twisted Fusion I will consider bringing them over. The reason why I went with a more complex, new and exclusive game first was their are some initial things that need to be funded which would be easier to absorb into a more impressive project. If Twisted Fusion is successful I wont need to hit Kickstarter to up-port some of my other games to Wii U.

NE: How will you proceed if Twisted Fusion’s Kickstarter funding goal isn’t met? Can fans still expect to see the game in the future? Would you consider relaunching the campaign at a lower target?

L: If the Kickstarter goal isn’t met, I will likely have to move the project onto mobile and bring back the virtual controls. The Kickstarter money is needed to fund the required gear need to develop the game and the other fees needed to get the game up on the eShop in America and Europe once the game is completed. Please all check the Kickstarter, not only would you be supporting me and the Wii U but we have some very special rewards tiers for pledges, including becoming a NPC in the game.

Sonic Lost World producer explains how Yoshi/Zelda DLC came to be, why no Mario and more
nintendoeverything.com posted by GoNintendo Apr 01 2014 03:23 GMT in Nintendo Stuff

The following comments come from a 4Gamer interview with producer Takashi Iizuka...

“This time, Sonic Lost World is a title that only released on Nintendo hardware, which is an opportunity that I couldn’t believe, collaborating together. This time, the appearance is interesting, as combining Sonic into such a world is extremely foreign, and I wanted to aim at the unexpected.

There has been much mix and collaboration of Mario and Sonic in the “Mario & Sonic” series, and they have parts that resemble both games. There was also the idea that the combination of the two might not be that interesting to the audience.

In normal production, the hardest part is building up the base of the game. Stages can normally be changed simply by variations, but this time, it was shaped to be a different experience on each stage [of the DLC], which is why it took so long to complete. It’s easy for Yoshi to be in Sonic Lost World, but the music, sound, and soundtrack of “The Legend of Zelda” made the development all the more entertaining and fun. I now feel like I want to make more, rather than just simply one zone. (Laughs)"

Turns out each stage took about 3 months to develop, and Iizuka originally wanted to have these stages included in the retail release. The schedule got too busy, so the levels ended up as DLC.

Minecraft PS3 update adds blocky skins from Uncharted, Heavy Rain, more

When the PlayStation Network is next updated, those playing Minecraft on the PlayStation 3 will find two new skin packs available for purchase. One features koalas and cavemen, while the other focuses on the most famous faces of the PlayStation 3.

According to the PlayStation.blog, the Battle And Beasts skin pack will allow players to dress as koala bears, cavemen, an ocotopus or a particularly angular Cleopatra. The other pack, simply titled "Skin Pack 1", is aimed at "hardcore PlayStation fans" and features Minecraft versions of Uncharted lead Nathan Drake, larcenous raccoon Sly Cooper, "folks from Heavy Rain" and "some Killzone dudes." We'd like to be more specific on who exactly will be representing Heavy Rain and Killzone, but neither Sony nor Minecraft creator Mojang offer further clarification.

Likewise lacking from the announcement are the price points that will be attached to those two DLC skin packs, though territorial Sony devotees will be pleased to hear that Skin Pack 1 is exclusive to the PlayStation 3 incarnation of Minecraft. [Image: Mojang]

Capcom employee says Final Fight revival 'isn't outside the realm of possibility'

Coming from Chris over at Capcom...

I sure hope we see another Final Fight someday, and agree with you one billion percent on Final Fight 3, ibLeo. It kind of got lost in the Street Fighter/next-gen tidal wave, but the series evolved in such a fun and natural way. Yes, I'm a pretty massive FF/Haggar fan, so excuse me while I plug this little tribute I made a while back.

Revisiting Metro City isn't outside the realm of possibility, and as always, you'll be the first to know if there's anything to announce. Until then, I thoroughly recommend checking out FF2 and FF3 on the Wii U if you've never played them. You've all brought me Extra Joy today...

Thanks to Connor for the heads up!
