"I only play the original Gameboy Tetris. I buy cartridges on eBay when needed. I have had some stolen and lost. My kids got too good at newer games so I only focus on a few puzzle-like games to be good at them. I was always #1 in the Nintendo Power listings in 1988 and after they said my name had been in there too many times and wouldn't print it again, I spelled my name backwards (Evets Kainzow) and sent in a photo of my score. When I got the magazine I'd forgotten doing this and was worried that a foreigner from the next city over (I used Saratoga instead of Los Gatos so they wouldn't catch on) had a score up in my range. I got worried but then remembered my joke. Whew! It's in some old issue of Nintendo Power Magazine - Gameboy Tetris score, name Evets Kainzow)." - Steve Wozniak

Man, I wonder how good he is now! Sounds like a player definitely worth going up against! Thanks to Popple for the heads up.
Francis

Tetris was  the Wii Sports of GameBoy.  Thanks Popple

Could Professor Layton Vs. Ace Attorney actually see localization in Europe this year? Cdiscount and La Fnac have the game set for a December 2012 release and Amazon added the title with a 'coming soon' listing. I think it's a bit of wishful thinking, but at least we have some hope for a release outside of Europe!

Analysts' predictions that June would be a dismal month for packaged game sales caused a dismal day for video game stocks on Wall Street. The share price for console software companies such as Zynga, Electronics Arts and Take Two Interactive and console makers such as Microsoft and Nintendo all dropped at the end of trading today. Zynga saw the biggest loss of the bunch with a 5 percent decrease.

Who gives a flying *crag* about stocks outside of news programs anymore. It's the same shit every day: "stocks are up, stocks are down, hurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr economy". Just shut up and tell us who died today. (or in this case, when ssb4 is going to be released.)

well I mean the stocks seem boring until you actually play them

This supposedly comes from an inside source that is familiar with what's holding the game back.

- The Sky Runner song needs to be changed
- The Chuck Berry battle song needs to be changed
- The Dali’s Clock enemy name needs to be changed

The big issue here is the Sky Runner song. The fixes with the other two issues are no big deal, but the Sky Runner change is apparently enough to put NoA or NCL off the VC release. Seems like a pretty big downer to me. Thanks to Wallid for the heads up.

Iwata recently had an interview in Yomiuri Shimbun. Here are some tidbits from that interview.

- 3DS to turn a profit in quarter ending March 2013
- Wii U to be priced reasonably
- Nintendo won't repeat the same mistakes of the 3DS with Wii U
- Nintendo improving costs on 3DS

"We haven't quite decided yet, whether we're going to do A Link to the Past, because there's also the possibility of doing a remake of Majora's Mask. This is something we've certainly been talking about and doing a little bit of experimenting with, to figure out which way we're going to go. (Fans will have to wait) just a little while longer (to hear a decision).

We have so many goals right now. We're always looking at expanding our audience and giving people the opportunity to get their hands on 3DS and see what kind of fun gaming experiences they can have. And now, we're also tasked with pushing the Wii U. So we have lots of good opportunities in terms of thinking about which Zelda game is going to be best for which purpose." - Shigeru Miyamoto

Well...that was an awfully forward answer from Miyamoto! It's so refreshing to see that! Now, what would you guys like to see Nintendo do?
Ph1r3 App Inventor for Android's visual block language
LttP
Popple
unless they are going to completely remake it from scratch, doing a 3DS version of LttP would bring almost nothing new to the table.
Also they already remade it once.

"I guess as a developer that might have to be the very first Super Mario game, for me, because I have so many memories tied up in it. Perhaps as a player, I might go for what was, at least in Japan, we referred to it as Super Mario USA, which was a game that just had a very different sort of feel. I think we had such a loose approach to it, we really came up with something interesting." - Shigeru Miyamoto

During the interview, the Super Mario Bros. 2 that North America received was brought up. What are the chances of another Mario game in that style coming around?

"I think the Mario games of that type are really in the hands of Mr. Tezuka at this point. Because he didn't work on that one in particular, that was one I worked on, he doesn't have memories of developing it that he would draw on to re-create concepts in the New Super Mario Bros. series now, from that game in particular."

Did Miyamoto forget that SMB2 was just a reskin of another game? And why does making a remake require working on the original? Couldn't he just, you know, play SMB2?

Just yesterday, Amazon UK had a preorder page for the black Wii U. That page also came with a £199.99 price tag. As many expected, the listing was too good to be true. The listing has since been removed and all preorders have been cancelled. Amazon said the listing was put up in error.

"I actually do kind of want to make a first-person shooter, but I don't have time. Rather than necessarily the question of 'What kind of weapon do I have?' in a first person shooter or 'What kind of effect does that have on an enemy?', I think that the structure of a first-person shooter is something that's very interesting. Having that 3D space that in theory you are in and being able to look around and explore that—particularly being able to do that in conjunction with another person—is very interesting." - Shigeru Miyamoto

Miyamoto went on to discuss how two GamePads could have a unique impact on how you play an FPS title.

"I don't think we're ever going to be at a point where we'll say it will support four GamePads, but two gamepads is something people wanted. Well, if you're playing a first-person shooter and you have the game up on the television screen and you have your subscreen below [in the GamePad controller],within that game world you're able to turn in all directions around you. Obviously that would be very fun. If you have two people doing that in the same room, that could create a very fun and unique gameplay experience."
Thanks to Robertaitor for the heads up!
Francis

Didn't that all get discussed when he was working on Skyward Sword, hence the first-person aspects of it?

"I really feel like I'm satisfied with the 3DS hardware as it is. I feel like it's the best for this generation. What we're thinking about right now is probably going to be for a future generation of handheld." - Shigeru Miyamoto

Looks like we're going to be hanging onto the current 3DS for some time. Miyamoto didn't have anything to say about revisions, but did admit to pondering ideas for a future generation portable. No worries, that one will be quite some time away.

Hideki Konno seems pretty interested in the idea of a 3DS that has bigger screens. Mr. Konno was asked at E3 about the 3DS redesign rumor, and while he couldn't comment on that, he did state that he enjoys the DSi XL's larger screens. With comments like that, you have to wonder if that larger 3DS rumor is spot-on.

Here's all the details Iwata was willing to give on the subject of Miiverse comment filtering.

- three levels of security
- first level is software-based content filtering for bad words
- second level includes newly hired people who will police the Miiverse
- this filtering will be done before the posts are published
- the time it takes for a message to post depends on how many people are posting and how many staffers Nintendo has working on the project
- Iwata looking for feedback at launch for how long is an acceptable time to wait for sending a post to the Miiverse to actually publishing
- Iwata feels that 30 minutes from post sent in to being published on the Miiverse is acceptable
- third level of security involves gamers themselves, since they can flag questionable posts

thank you for protecting me, Nintendo, from the big bad scary internet
Super-Claus

It's most likely just for that thing that pops up when you first start up the Wii U, everything else will probably have a parental adviser and control option in-system just like the other systems, hell even the wii had it. Honestly I don't really care, private messaging will still most likely be uncensored, and group/friend messaging will probably be uncensored as well. I already predicted this when they showed it off at the Pre-E3 thing anyways. It makes perfec sense that the public message board would have censorship, and it's not so much to protect the children as it is the fact that some people just don't like seeing obscenities up on the screen whenever they boot up their system. I DON'T however approve of the read-before-display thing (except I don't mind it for that big boot up thing becuase that is obviously not urgent, unlike group/friend messaging)

Coming from a NEOGaf user:

-Gamepad's battery life is 3-5 hours
-2 hours and 30 minutes to charge
-depends on the brightness of the screen
-you can use gamepad while charging

Three to five hours doesn't seem like much. But as long as we can use the controller while charging those long gaming sessions should be no problem.

Here's a rumor that I'm sure will get Wii U and Kingdom Hearts fans into a tizzy.

- Kingdom Hearts: HD Remix or Kingdom Hearts: Remembrance coming to Wii U
- includes Kingdom Hearts 1, 2, Chain of Memories, 358/2 Days and Birth By Sleep
- inclusion of new side quests
- Wii U version makes plot connections with Kingdom Hearts 3D

Okay, if it includes all these games, there's no way in hell I'm not buying it.

The second game in the fan-favorite Pikmin franchise originally launched for the Nintendo GameCube console in 2004. Now Wii users can enjoy the imaginative fun of this classic and colorful mass action strategy game, now available at a suggested retail price of just $19.99 as part of the value-minded, family-friendly Nintendo Selects series. The brave Captain Olimar has returned to marshal new types of Pikmin in a wild, open-ended adventure. On a mission to pay back his employer’s debt, Olimar and his sidekick Louie must command squads of tiny Pikmin to help locate valuable treasures, exploring mysterious environments and battling pesky enemies along the way. Players of any experience level can use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers to command these curious creatures and complete their mission. The game also invites friends to deviously pit their Pikmin squads against one another in a rough and ruthless two-player mode*.

Features:

• Pikmin 2 is simple to pick up and play using the intuitive Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers. Players can alternate between controlling Captain Olimar and Louie as they point the Wii Remote controller at the screen to select Pikmin and put them to work. A swarm of up to 100 Pikmin can be commanded simultaneously to explore new areas, locate treasures, fend off enemies and solve puzzles.

• Pikmin 2 marks the debut of two additional Pikmin types: white and purple. Purple Pikmin boast 10 times the strength and weight of other colors, while white Pikmin are fast, resistant to poison and skilled at locating hidden treasure. Returning Pikmin types such as red, yellow and blue all have their own unique traits and abilities, too.

• Strategy is key as players choose which Pikmin to deploy for a given task. With more than 60 different species of enemy characters and randomly generated dungeons that span the planet, the game offers a fun array of challenges.

• Players can go head to head in frantic two-player battles or team up in a cooperative challenge mode.

• There are no time limits in Pikmin 2, so players of any experience level can progress through the game at their own pace, heading straight for the action or taking time to explore the beautiful habitats.

* Additional accessories are required for multiplayer mode and are sold separately.
