Oh boy more basic stuff that should have been there on day one. Glad we can rely on one of the biggest companies on the planet to just manage what a neckbeard in a garage can do.
Super-Claus
now you're just over simplifying it.

I have messages from myself in 2008 that I sent several years into the future, I probably missed most of them though since I hardly turn my wii on.
Viddd
Same here, Shades. Most of 'em landed on stuff like my birthday to my knowledge, so I probably missed 'em. But I could go back and find them, maybe. It'd be funny to see what I said.
On a related note, it was sometime a while ago that I went through my old AOL account from when I was like, ten or younger? And I found a whole bunch of time capsule messages from myself, and it was hilarious. Among the highlights were "I probably have a job now" and me raving about Toonami, among other things.

In an investor presentation, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata announced that Nintendo will skip the usual large-scale E3 press conference this year in favor of "a few smaller events that are specifically focused on our software lineup for the U.S. market."

One of these events will be for American distributors, with another closed event "for mainly the Western gaming media." Iwata noted that Nintendo is not panning to announce any new hardware at this E3, with showing off software the main focus.

While Nintendo is dropping a lot of mainstream press attention with this move, it makes a lot of sense for a company with the recent financial history of Nintendo to skip out on some expensive pageantry. Especially when the company makes E3-level announcements monthly, for a tiny fraction of the cost.
Francis
Seems like a missed opportunity. A lot of people don't know about the Nintendo Directs, but they do check to see what was said at E3 each year. Is it really that expensive?
hero of time
The title was misleading. Sorry for upsetting you.

Nintendo has created a web-accessible version of the Miiverse, the Nintendo social network. The Miiverse was previously only accessible from the Wii U, but now you can now browse posts about your favorite games and maintain your profile from the comfort of your own PC or mobile device. Mike hopped in to check out his account, since he remembers his Nintendo Network login and I don't. (Hey, I've barely been playing Wii U lately.) At the moment, you can't post new content from your PC, just browse existing posts. Check it out here. (h/t Craig Lupienski)

Way back in August of last year, Rockstar Games started putting out weird tweets into a feed for the Epsilon Program, a religious cult that appeared in GTA IV. Now, the NYC-based developer is featuring an Epsilonism promo video on their official page. A thread on NeoGAF alleges that there’s in-game footage in the looping promo clip. Do those rolling waves and floating clouds look like they’re the product of Rockstar’s RAGE game-building suite to you? Will one of GTA V’s three playable characters be following the 12 Tenets of Epsilonism. “Directions will be provided in one week's time,” says the post on Rockstar’s official site. Kifflom to that.

Oh man I remember that show, it was actually pretty frightening as a kid

- set in the same Hyrule as A Link to the Past
- demo dungeon included Stalfos
- you also end up dodging flying tiles
- turning into a drawing also gives you a new perspective
- Link's magic bar has stamina functions, replenishing as time passes
- magic depletes when Link uses his hammer and turns into a drawing
- also fight off reborn
- demo dungeon has a mossy-looking Moldorm as a boss
- use your hammer to smash springs, then get on top to be launched
- the X button is used for your bow
- Y for your hammer
- B for your sword
- block with your shield using L
- spin attack when you hold B
- reassign buttons for other items hasn't been confirmed, but is likely
- dungeon has multiple secret areas, hidden chests and more
- secret fairy room was hidden in the dungeon
- life potion was in your inventory
- firing an arrow requires your stamina to deplete
- demo had unlimited arrows
- use the Circle Pad to control Link

Switch blocks swap black and white bits when you hit them. White are pass-through and black are solid, so now you can create gates and stuff. I might add another type that swaps with red.

I originally had it so that when other players hit the switch it would also affect your game, but I decided it was too confusing (a player somewhere else in the level could be messing you up, and it would sometimes get out of sync).

When you enter a level or die, the switches and bits reset back to their original state.

Linkshot
Can we make timer-based ones to replicate 2-Extra?
Linkshot
Oh oops forgot to reply to this but I mean 2-Extra as in Yoshi's Island "Hit That Switch"

“This is a new trial to teach what game design is about and getting people together to have fun while thinking and creating. I invite you to please try and participate.” – Shigeru Miyamoto
“It’s been over 30 years since the birth of Nintendo’s Family Computer. In those days, everything involving development had to be handmade through a series of inventions. Compared to today, the development environment has greatly changed, but the thought process that goes into developing, hasn’t changed by much.

In our earlier days, games were only made through Nintendo’s original development environment. Since then, the hurdle has been lowered after having worked on the Wii U, as it is now possible for people without technical backgrounds to make games. Also, if you share the same enthusiasm towards game developing, it wouldn’t be out of possibility for you to come up with something new with Nintendo’s lecturers while bringing a smile to those around you.

Our previous seminars mainly focused on putting together lectures and production. From this point on, the renovated at-home development style will allow you produce with enthusiasm whenever and however much you’d like. So I ask you people with different expertise to gather and enjoy yourselves while coming up with various inventions from zero as we did 30 years ago.” – Takashi Tezuka

Given that I have a bit more money than usual, if I were to buy a new component what should I upgrade and what do you recommend I replace it with?

Francis
I like a monitor with higher resolution. More RAM (8GB) will improve multitasking. Quad core might help games (i7?). SSD helps with load times.

oh, didn't know that. well sorry gold guess you're *crag*ed both ways.

Inspired by Doop's puzzle rooms, you can now craft a special door that gives you your very own game level. For example I recreated World 1-1 from Super Mario Bros. :)

Each level has a start and end door and if you die you respawn to the start.

Some things function a little differently when in these levels:
Blue bits make water.
Red bits are deadly.
Goombas are deadly.
Signs act as checkpoints.

I plan on adding more items in the future to make your levels more interesting and challenging, but for now you can make puzzles, mazes, or just mess around in your own world.

View the MakerMeow recipe list for how to get the new door and items.

Tearaway will be available on shelves and on PSN October 22nd! We can’t wait for you to get your hands on, and indeed in, our new game at the end of the year.

In Tearaway you’ll journey through a vibrant, living papery world, with a plucky messenger who has a unique message to deliver – to you!

As the papery world of Tearaway unfolds in your hands, you’ll be able to use your god-like powers to help your new messenger friend, iota or atoi, complete their very special delivery.

You’ll uncover a magical dimension inspired by folklore, and built realistically from paper that unfolds and comes alive before your very eyes. As you explore this world you’ll meet the papercraft creatures that live within it, help out strange new friends and encounter dangerous challenges.

We’ve designed the world of Tearaway to blend with our own through the unique features of the PS Vita, which allow you to help your messenger buddy to solve puzzles using the power of touch, literally breathe new life into this papercraft land, and reach up into the world using the rear-touch panel to see your fingertips appear inside the game! We think this is an adventure unlike anything you’ve played before.

Here’s a little more backstory on how Tearaway came to be from our very own doodle-meister and lead designer, Rex Crowle.

Normally a game has just one piece of box art, but we have two main characters for you to choose from – iota and atoi. Who should go on the front of the box then? It was an impossible choice for us to make, so instead of making it, we made a reversible double sided inlay, so you can decide for yourself! See both versions at the top of this post.

We’ll be back with more Tearaway news soon!

Francis
A vibrant papery world huh? Actually I'm surprised Nintendo hasn't done papercraft themed Paper Mario.
Francis
yeah it's made by the peeps that did LBP, which was more Cardboard than Paper
