The Steam Box drama is now reaching soap-opera-esque levels. First, Xi3 announced that it’s partnered with Valve to birth a bouncing baby space grapefruit, then Valve noted that plenty of other prototypes are waiting in the wings, and now Gabe Newell’s emerged from the shadows to chat up Valve’s own Linux-powered, biometrically-controlled Steam Box. What’s next, I ask you? Will we discover that Half-Life 2: Episode 3 never died, but instead got shipwrecked on an island/overwrought metaphor/the moon, conveniently acquired amnesia, and came to believe that it, too, was a Steam Box? Or is some contrived, out-of-left-field twist going to reveal that our closest friends were Steam Boxes all along? It’s just too much, everyone. I’m not sure if I can deal with it.

Final Fantasy XIII isn't too great of a game. I probably would not dislike it so much, however, if it wasn't a prime example of wasted potential.

That basically summarizes the game's battle system: wasted potential. On paper, the battle system sounds like the best the series has had yet. A perfect blend of the strategic elements of class Final Fantasy titles and the fast-paced action of other games. And during the first few hours, you really would think that the battle system is the best in the series. So how could it go so wrong? Well, there's a couple of problems with it. First and foremost, the combat becomes repetitive. While one may think the game allows for a ton of strategic depth, the way most of the enemies are structured and the way most of the abilities are designed ruins all of its potential. Bosses will become spamfests, determined by how quickly you can change paradigms and hope for the best. Secondly, not being able to control individual party members is a real detriment. while it may work in a game like Mass Effect, 2 where the level design matters as much as the enemies you are fighting, for a game like Final Fantasy XIII, in which the outcome of a battle depends purely on your combat choices, it only hinders the experience.

As for what was mentioned in the beginning of this review, that also summarizes the story: wasted potential. The underlying lore, setting, and atmosphere of the game, in theory, compose great fodder for a story to be told. However, unfortunately, the execution of the story-telling is just plain terrible. Many of the character sound like broken record players; repeating the same spiel over, and over, and over again. The most notable offenders are Hope (Mr. "I don't think I'm strong enough/I'm gonna KILL that Snow") and Snow (Mr. "We're the heroes! Never give up!"). The rest of the crew, Vanille, Lightning, and Fang, are incredibly one-dimensional with no real depth; the only character with any real depth and memorable personality traits is Sazh. And it says alot about a game if the most memorable character is a middle-aged man with a baby bird living in his 'fro.

Finally, the music isn't that great, either. While some of it is good, such as the battle themes, alot of it devolves in to cheesy J-Pop. *crag*, the worst offender is the chocobo theme; they gave it *crag*ing lyrics. You don't give lyrics to the chocobo theme. You just plain don't.

So yeah, ultimately, I'd call this game more "disappointing" than "bad." If you're a die-hard fan of the series, you should probably get it, but be wary. If you're not a member of the FF fanbase, well, this game definitely isn't going to convert you.

Being old fuddy-duddies, at RPS we generally frown upon fathers’ hiring hitmen to kill their sons. Political health and safety correctness gone mad, we know, but we’re stuck in our ways. But as Kotaku spotted while we were still curled up hibernating within the warm furry fuzzle of Horace’s infinite tummy, when it comes to Mr Feng of China, we are totally down with it. Because he did it online. In pretend land.

Corpse Party spins off into a series of new, smaller Corpse Parties next week, when the follow-up to last year's PSP game launches on PSN. Corpse Party: Book of Shadows is a set of short stories set in the franchise's universe, each focusing on different characters as, if the first game is any indication, they get tortured relentlessly by ghosts.

On the PlayStation Blog, XSEED localization specialist and professional Corpse Partier Tom Lipschultz introduces each of the stories, so you can get an idea about all the unfortunate kids you'll be putting through hell when you play the game.

The only thing Shaquille O'Neal hates more than Kobe Bryant is not being in video games. Good then that Shaq's dry streak comes to an end today with the launch of ShaqDown on iOS and Android devices, a new free-runner smash-em-up for $.99.

Shaq takes on hordes of zombies across three stages, each culminating in a boss battle. Developer Hiptic Games has programmed in some of the all-star center's most iconic moves, like the "flaming basketball toss" and "successful free-throw shot," the latter being perhaps Shaq's most memorable basketball trait.

ShaqDown is available for download now on the Google Play store for Android devices running 2.2 and up, and on the iOS App store for iDevices running 4.3 or higher.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The powerful gun lobby, the National Rifle Association, is slated to meet with Vice President Joe Biden as he considers recommendations on how to respond to a mass shooting last month in Newtown, Connecticut, the White House said on Tuesday.

After the Newtown school shooting, which President Barack Obama called the worst day of his presidency, he asked Biden to come up with a broad range of ideas to curb gun violence - ideas he will unveil in his annual State of the Union address, traditionally given in late January.

The next installment in EA's annual golf simulation, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14, is expected to launch in North America on March 26; worldwide on March 28. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 will skip the Wii this year, focusing on the Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms and their respective Kinect and PlayStation Move functionality - Kinect support was introduced last year, while PlayStation Move has been in PS3 installments for a few years now.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14's flagship mode is called 'Legends of the Majors,' a gauntlet of nine pro golfers from yesteryear that players must defeat - greats including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan and, of course, Tiger Woods himself - and for the first time in series history, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 brings in the LGPA and some of its most notable female golfers. Players can also chase a Grand Slam for the first time in the series, achieved through winning all four of the sport's biggest tournaments: the Masters Tournament, the U.S. Open, The Open Championship and the PGA Championship.
