You can now create doors (which creates a new room).
Only one door per person per area, and the only areas allowed for now are outside and underground.
Doors can only be placed if surrounded by background tiles (at least 3x3 tiles).

Use this block pattern in the MakerMeow to create a door:
RRD
RRD
RRD

R = red, D = dirt

The rooms are currently not very customizable but that will improve in the next update.

Francis
also the rooms you create can only be modified by you (no one else can place or remove anything).
JacobDaGun
You can put doors inside houses to make additional rooms.
Just sayin'.

Now when you place a door you "own" the space around it.
There are two different user levels... horizontal (green) and vertical (blue).
You can give your level a name.
Inside your levels you have unlimited inventory of everything.
The world will now survive small updates to the server, so it shouldn't need to be reset anytime soon.
other minor stuff
The lantern can be turned on and off.

Here are screen grabs of the entire world (broken up into three images) at about 7:30 eastern time (after it had been wiped clean a few times). I know people kept going, so who knows how far up they went.

Thanks for helping me test things out. There were some strange glitches for sure. Probably caused mostly by the blocks, which I just threw in last minute to give you all something to do.

The "real" game probably wont have free-placement of blocks like that. But instead you would be creating the buildings and objects to go inside them.

nice touch that each level has a Luigi sprite or image in it somewhere. It does take a a little while to get used to Luigi's slippery movement.

Crazy that they would give up on all the benefits they were going to have. (game sharing, no disc needed, etc)  Discs now have to be in the tray, digital games can't be shared or resold, but everything can work offline.

Could they not have done both?

Grievous

Like I said on another site, the removal of the negatives isn't some kind of good will offering, it's damage control. There's still the threat of them reinstating them in a patch.

Francis
ah cool Gold, I didn't know they added that. Yeah it's like the Wii -> Wii U transfer process, for moving everything to a new device. (probably for people who wanted to upgrade to an XL).

Same roster for both versions, so the number of characters may be limited by the 3DS capabilities.
3DS makes some characters, like Ice Climbers, difficult to implement.
...so the 3DS and Wii U versions may not release at same time.
Don't expect many 3rd party characters. Mega Man may be all there is.
Gameplay balance will fall somewhere between Melee and Brawl.
Gamepad will not have any advantage over other controllers.
Official tiles are Super Smash Bros for Wii U and Super Smash Bros for 3DS
No tripping.
No plans for DLC.
You can customize your players somehow (but its not costumes, and its not anything you have to earn)
You can transfer your customizations between Wii U and 3DS versions.
Wii U and 3DS versions can NOT play against each other, and each has different levels.

Lot of details are coming in from various interviews with Sakurai

The waiting list was full when I got there so I didn't get to play anything. Also all the Luigi Hats and Mario Kart flags were all gone :(  but the most frustrating thing of all was that half the people there wanted to play Zelda.

So you had to watch a single player play the same Wind Waker level that the previous nerd played, for 10 minutes each. Note to Nintendo... you have four controllers and a crowd of people wanting to have fun. Watching one person play an old Zelda game repeatedly is not fun.

I did get to see Super Mario 3D World played a few times, which was awesome. I'm really really excited about it. Mario Kart 8 looked great too, even though it's just more of the same. Donkey Kong Country was also more of the same and had really bad loading times (I assume they'll fix that before release). In fact DKC looks pretty underwhelming after playing Rayman Legends.

So if you have a best buy nearby it's worth checking out (they do it again Saturday), but be prepared to wait a long time to get play.

Lord Crump
It was a waste of time; I waited 30 minutes for a chance to play and the games there weren't anything mind-blowing
Pikmin 3 and Smash Bros. would've been halfway interesting

Yume Kojo could be a sub-title since it was the name of the Fuji event, but "Dream Factory" seems like a more fitting name (the game is a dream after all, with Wart standing next to some machinery) than "Heart-Pounding Panic"... I mean it's not that exciting.

I have messages from myself in 2008 that I sent several years into the future, I probably missed most of them though since I hardly turn my wii on.
Viddd
Same here, Shades. Most of 'em landed on stuff like my birthday to my knowledge, so I probably missed 'em. But I could go back and find them, maybe. It'd be funny to see what I said.
On a related note, it was sometime a while ago that I went through my old AOL account from when I was like, ten or younger? And I found a whole bunch of time capsule messages from myself, and it was hilarious. Among the highlights were "I probably have a job now" and me raving about Toonami, among other things.

Switch blocks swap black and white bits when you hit them. White are pass-through and black are solid, so now you can create gates and stuff. I might add another type that swaps with red.

I originally had it so that when other players hit the switch it would also affect your game, but I decided it was too confusing (a player somewhere else in the level could be messing you up, and it would sometimes get out of sync).

When you enter a level or die, the switches and bits reset back to their original state.

Linkshot
Can we make timer-based ones to replicate 2-Extra?
Linkshot
Oh oops forgot to reply to this but I mean 2-Extra as in Yoshi's Island "Hit That Switch"

Inspired by Doop's puzzle rooms, you can now craft a special door that gives you your very own game level. For example I recreated World 1-1 from Super Mario Bros. :)

Each level has a start and end door and if you die you respawn to the start.

Some things function a little differently when in these levels:
Blue bits make water.
Red bits are deadly.
Goombas are deadly.
Signs act as checkpoints.

I plan on adding more items in the future to make your levels more interesting and challenging, but for now you can make puzzles, mazes, or just mess around in your own world.

View the MakerMeow recipe list for how to get the new door and items.

Super-Claus
well now I have more space than I know what to do with
Super-Claus
in the areas where you are in a room with like a katrillion coins and you hear the little music timer speeding up and then it warps you out. It was built to farm lives on coins

Select the move-arrows item and then your player will move towards wherever you touch/click. I beat World 1-1 on my phone.

There is no touch action button yet. How about shake-to-punch?

YELLOW bits now give off light and some areas will be dark without them. You can not stand on yellow bits. Underground is very dark now, so you need a lantern or a few yellow bits to see. The Hell Arena is lit by the glow of the lava. Rooms start with two lights behind the glass tiles, if you remove them your room will dim (but not be too dark to see).

Don't place more lights than you need.  Too many and the game starts to slow down.

Francis
The light is blocked by dirt and black bits (casting a cool shadow effect if I do say so myself). Light passes through color bits because they are like gem stones or something.
