Rainbow Six studio Red Storm is helping Ubisoft's Swedish house Massive Entertainment and UK studio Ubisoft Reflections with development of The Division, the open-world Tom Clancy game due out in 2014. Mainly, Red Storm's help comes in the form of realistic weaponry.

"I, personally, have been doing it for about six years now," Red Storm Lead Weapons Designer JD Cragg says in an Ubisoft blog post. "One of the guys on my team has been doing it for almost nine. This is pretty much all I do - authentic military weapons, vehicles and that sort of thing."

Red Storm is focusing on the weapons artwork, and it has an in-house authenticity department and connections with the local military. The studio has "tens of thousands of photos" of broken-down firearms.

"We've had manufacturers come in and literally disassemble the entire weapon all the way down to the nuts and bolts, and our guys are taking hi-res photos of those things," Red Storm Producer Tony Sturtzel says. "We probably have unparalleled access to these types of things because of our authenticity department and their focus on relationships. We're not ever gonna let the cat out of the bag on some of the relationships we have."

The Division is due out in 2014 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, though that release window is reported to be "laughable," according to a Massive Entertainment team member. [Image: Ubisoft]

A portion of a C3 interview with Rain Games' Eduardo Garabito...

Cubed3: What made you decide to bring the game to Nintendo Wii U?

Eduardo: It was a great opportunity we had to publish our game with a company which made many of our most beloved games in our childhood; we just couldn't let it slip! It's now quite obvious that not only Nintendo, but many of the major publishers out there are getting more and more indie devs into their platforms, which is a dream for us. Attending gaming events and spreading the word helps in that regard.

Cubed3: How do you intend on using the GamePad controller to bring something different when compared to other platforms?

Eduardo: Even from it early concept, Teslagrad was a, let's say, console-like game. Our first published version has been the computer one, that's true, but either way the game was designed with console control schemes in mind. The Wii U has a really interesting and unique feature, which is off-screen play. Not only you will be able to play completely on the Wii U GamePad, but the map and secret card system will also be accessible from the controller, taking advantage of the touch interface - it feels really nice, by the way!

Cubed3: What are your plans for the future - could a sequel be on the cards?

Eduardo: At this moment we are completely focused on the console versions of Teslagrad. We have some other concepts that we'd like to study, of course, but we feel that it's not the right time. So for other games or sequels, time will tell. It's exciting enough to get this work done, which is not a small task!

A portion of a Wired review...

By delaying the part where they ask you for money until you’re already emotionally invested into the world of the game, Nintendo’s hoping that you’ll be more willing to shell out at that perfect moment. Thankfully, in the case of Real Deal Baseball, what you get for your money is more than worth it.

Rufus Wainwright once drawled, “Pretty things, so what if I like pretty things?” Which I think is the perfect reason for me to post this Child Of Light trailer. If Rufus can like pretty things, then so can I. And Ubisoft’s platform puzzle game is an entrée for eyelashes, a pie for the pupil, a roast for the retina, a quiet lunch by the river on a sunny day for the orbit. It is a feast for the eyes.

Coming from a Polygon interview with Bill Trinen...

"They have these quirky voices, and you can adjust the voice for any character you want," he said. "You can adjust the pitch and the tone and things like that. So the first step was actually getting that to work well in English. Japanese being a phonetic language, it works very easily. English, it took a lot of work. Being able to hear them speak is a really key point of their personality, and hearing all the different voices and accents they have is also a very key part of how they come alive."

Square Enix Montreal will launch mobile strategy game Hitman Go on iOS on Thursday, April 17. Based on the publisher's popular Hitman series, the diorama-style, turn-based game will cost $5 (£3 / 4.50 euros). Announced in February, the first game from the developer has players navigating fixed, grid-like spaces while using familiar tools from the series, such as Agent 47's Silverballers.

Hitman Go will include eight special "Curtains Down" levels based on Hitman: Blood Money. While Square Enix didn't set a release date for it, the Android version of the game will arrive "shortly after" it launches on the App Store. [Image: Square Enix]

Today Nintendo unveiled Tomodachi Life, a game that our own Jason Schreier described as "Animal Crossing on Acid ". I'm inclined to agree. That trailer was one of the weirdest things I've ever seen come out of Nintendo, complete with avatars of current executives and luminaries acting bonkers.Read more...

When I was young, we had a SNES, and we had Super Mario All-Stars for it. We didn't have many other games for the SNES for a while, but there were enough on this one cartridge to keep us busy. I remember at school you had the Sega heads and the Nintendo heads, and it did feel, back then, that Sega was that little bit cooler. But looking at it now, I guess Nintendo had the last laugh. I have a younger brother and two younger sisters, so Nintendo felt like the more family-friendly option, whereas Sega games seemed like they were a bit more grown up.

I guess I'd have to say Super Mario All-Stars. I play a lot of modern games; I love the Metal Gear Solid series, and I'm really into the GTA games, too. But with Mario, whatever the era, you know what you're going to get. Those games are adventures of the highest order... They have these classic fairytale qualities to them. Here's a man, and he has to rescue a princess, and there's a castle. In many respects, it's a simple, straightforward proposition, but it's very pure... Even the new Mario games — I've got Super Mario 3D World — retain that playability of the 2D originals. Mario games, they're all like playgrounds — playgrounds in which you can just do anything and everything. - Tinie Tempah

Lots of nice changes have gotten in the past month, so I'd say the delay is a good thing. Now it's time to push for release.

Only feature that wasn't able to get in is Miiverse integration - couldn't figure out the best way to put that in.

But I hope to add that in for a future update.

You might remember that we liked sleepy-as-the-night, sharp-as-a-knife adventure Kentucky Route Zero quite a lot. We even gave it game of the year, doncha know. So when Last Life creator Sam Farmer told me his game was best described as “Kentucky Route Zero in space,” I nearly warbled with glee. The noir-themed tale of a detective trying to solve the mystery of his own murder has Double Fine‘s blessing and backing, and it’s taking to Kickstarter for one more boost. I sat down with Farmer for what turned out to be his first interview ever, and we discussed Last Life’s universe and story, Sherlock-style inspection mechanics, Double Fine’s involvement, what it means to be “noir,” and transhumanism. It’s all below.
