Knuckles Man.? Rose Woman? Shadow Man? Only two horrible minds could've come up with evil robot antagonists like these. Dr. Wily and Dr. Eggman's malevolent subversion of Sonic the hedgehog's friends gets revealed in the latest issue of the Worlds Collide crossover, an Archie Comics event pairing up Sonic and Mega for twelve issues of hi-jinx. This Wednesday, Sonic the Hedgehog #249— part six of Worlds Collide—comes out with the mini-bossed versions of Shadow, Knuckles and other buddies of gaming's fastest hedgehog. What a way to go out, huh? I mean, Knuckles and Shadow have their haters but even they probably wouldn't have wished this on those characters. You can check out more the blue-hero-vs-mad-scientist team-up in the preview pages below.

actually makes sense for Robotnik and Dr. Wily to team up. would make for an interesting game

Metanet Software's N, which the developer describes as " that game you played in high school but forgot about through college," has seemingly reached its pinnacle. The wall-jumping, pixelated ninja platformer has been officially stamped version 2.0 and is now available entirely for free. N 2.0 adds a number of extra features, including 100 new levels, 100 "legacy" levels pulled from N and the various console iterations of N+, 100 user-made levels, level sharing, local 2 player co-op and new "FUN-lockable" content.

You can play the game for free on Kongregate or download it directly from Metanet. And yes, in case you were wondering, N++ is still on the way

Was this on ds at any point because I remember having a rom of a game that looked really similar to this pre installed on a ds flash cart i bought
Gold Prognosticus
There was a version, N+, that was released on DS a while back. I gather some of the levels from that have been incorporated into this game.

This movie despite having hardly anything to do with Mario was still pretty great. That scene where Mario goes down an ice shoot on a bed mattress with a bunch of maidens is pretty great.

The Xbox One won't play Xbox 360 discs or XBLA games, and that doesn't really bother Microsoft Head of Interactive Entertainment Business Don Mattrick.

"If you're backwards compatible, you're really backwards," he told the Wall Street Journal.

Mattrick said only 5 percent of customers play games from previous generations on new consoles, so spending time to make that possible isn't worth it. Sony's PlayStation 4 isn't backward compatible from a hardware standpoint, but with cloud service Gaikai, it should offer a way to play games from the PS3 and older consoles.

It's been eight years since the previous generation transition, meaning players have had longer than ever to build up their libraries. That's a lot to lose - and even more so with the onset of downloadable games in the middle of this generation.
Francis
The difference between current-gen and next-gen is much smaller than last time, so I don't think that 5% stat applies anymore. Current gen has all the features (online, HD, harddrives, DLC) and gameplay that the next-gen systems do (ironically the Wii U is the only one with new game types, and yet it's still backwards compatible)

When I was growing up, I was barely allowed to own any video games. Contrast that with Redditor Mertzlufft, whose father teamed up with him to construct this bananas-looking underground compound, stuffed with more games than any single human could hope to handle. Mertzlufft, now in college, says that the project has been in the works for 5 years. It sure looks like a labor of love to me. I'm guessing that when they power this sucker up, the lights in their neighborhood dim for a bit. And can you imagine the noise? It must sound like the freeplay room at PAX. What I'm saying is, I want to go there. - The arcade my father and I made in the basement (imgur via Geekologie)

UPDATE: The used games stuff only gets weirder and weirder. Xbox exec Phil Harrison told Eurogamer there's a fee associated with used games, while Xbox Support is saying the exact opposite on Twitter. On the other hand, Kotaku also talked to Harrison, who said Microsoft is working out an online trade system that's yet to be announced, and games will be playable on all user accounts on an individual system. According to Harrison, you will have to pay a fee if you borrow a game disc from a friend, a fee that, at least for new games, will be the same cost your friend probably paid.

--

As more details on Microsoft’s newly announced Xbox One filter out, we'll bring you the ones that matter.

The company tossed up a FAQ up to address some pressing questions.

I’ve highlighted the most important answers below, which address the rumors about Xbox One being an “always on” console, the transferring of gamerscore and achievements, backwards compatibility, and if used games are a thing anymore. There aren’t great answers to the first and last questions, unfortunately, but that’s where we’re at right now.

Q: Does Xbox One require an “always on” Internet connection?

A: No, it does not have to be always connected, but Xbox One does require a connection to the Internet. We’re designing Xbox One to be your all-in-one entertainment system that is connected to the cloud and always ready. We are also designing it so you can play games and watch Blu-ray movies and live TV if you lose your connection.

Q: Can I use my current gamertag on Xbox One and will my Gamerscore and Achievements transfer?

A: Yes. Your current Xbox Live Gamertag will stay with you on Xbox One if you choose to keep it, and your hard-earned Gamerscore and Achievements will indeed carry over from Xbox 360.

Q: Will Xbox One be backward compatible with my existing games?

A: Xbox One hardware is not compatible with Xbox 360 games. We designed Xbox One to play an entirely new generation of games—games that are architected to take full advantage of state-of-the-art processors and the infinite power of the cloud. We care very much about the investment you have made in Xbox 360 and will continue to support it with a pipeline of new games and new apps well into the future.

Q: Will Xbox One allow players to trade in, purchase and play pre-owned games?

A: We are designing Xbox One to enable customers to trade in and resell games. We’ll have more details to share later.

We also know Xbox Live will now support up to 1,000 friends, a far cry from the current service's 100-person limit.

Additionally, Engadget reports the machine will come with a 500GB hard drive that is non-replaceable, but the USB 3.0 slots can be used for external storage.

Gold Prognosticus
Interesting that they'll still be maintaining the 360 even through the life cycle of the One - this is something I've commented on in the past with regards to underwhelming 3DS/Wii U sales shortly after launch.

Are you too popular for the Xbox 360? The Xbox One is here for you by expanding your friends list limit to 1000, as revealed by Microsoft Support's official Twitter account. That's ten times the limit on Xbox 360, so even the most beloved of gamers should be placated.

[Thanks, Dan]

Microsoft's minty-fresh Xbox One will be unable to play Xbox 360 discs, nor will your multitude of Xbox Live Arcade purchases transfer to the new machine, our friends at Engadget have learned.

The incompatibility is due to the fact that the Xbox One runs on x86 processor architecture, whereas the Xbox 360 ran on PowerPC. This fundamental difference in hardware architecture prevents the Xbox One from natively running Xbox 360 games, regardless of how powerful the thing may be.

"We care very much about the investment people have made in Xbox 360 and will continue to support it with a pipeline of new games and new apps well into the future," a Microsoft representative told Engadget. Part of that investment will transfer, however: Your Xbox Live Gamerscore.

Earlier this year, Sony also announced that its PlayStation 4 will make the jump to a processor built on the x86 platform.

Coming from today's Iwata Asks...

Today I'm here in Paris visiting a company called NERD1. The official name is “Nintendo European Research and Development SAS”, but we call it “NERD” for short. Perhaps, you may know the company by the name “Mobiclip”. Mobiclip and Nintendo have been working together for some time now, and in 2011 Mobiclip became part of the Nintendo group before changing its name only recently.

Well, there's not going to be a better Nintendo internal development name than that! Thanks to NintenDaan for the heads up.

While the new console and Kinect might get the lion's share of attention at the Xbox Reveal, the good ol' Xbox controller is getting some redesign love on the Xbox One as well. The control will feature an integrated battery compartment, Wi-Fi Direct, "impulse triggers" that incorporate extra feedback and, most important of all, a cross-shaped "precision" D-Pad.

Francis

So I bought a dedicated server for a personal event, and now I have just under a month of time left on it so I thought I'd post the link here in case any of you wanted to play. It's currently running TF2 and that will most likely be its default state, but I can switch it to Mann vs Machine, CounterStrike, CounterStrike: Source, Day of Defeat, Condition Zero and a few Source Mods for a bit if need be.

If you have any maps that you want added to the server, post the link in the comments and I'll see about getting them uploaded.

Nintendo sent over this statement to us just now...

As part of our on-going push to ensure Nintendo content is shared across social media channels in an appropriate and safe way, we became a YouTube partner and as such in February 2013 we registered our copyright content in the YouTube database. For most fan videos this will not result in any changes, however, for those videos featuring Nintendo-owned content, such as images or audio of a certain length, adverts will now appear at the beginning, next to or at the end of the clips. We continually want our fans to enjoy sharing Nintendo content on YouTube, and that is why, unlike other entertainment companies, we have chosen not to block people using our intellectual property. For more information please visit http://www.youtube.com/yt/copyright/faq.html

In other words, Nintendo has ads running on fan-made Nintendo videos that hit a certain length or feature certain content. Thanks to Nintendo for the comment!

The following comments come from Bob Summerwill Senior SE and Architect, EA Sports.

@shanselman The WiiU is crap.Less powerful than an XBOX360.Poor online/store.Weird tablet.Nintendo are walking dead at this point.

— Bob Summerwill (@BobSummerwill) May 17, 2013

@shanselman Nintendo are still operating like it's 1990.They should have "done a Sega" and offered Mario/Zelda as PS4/Durango exclusives.

— Bob Summerwill (@BobSummerwill) May 17, 2013

@shanselman Instead they make this awful console, and this ... nintendo.com/wiiu/downloads….Just stop it!Just make great games!

— Bob Summerwill (@BobSummerwill) May 17, 2013

@shanselman It is an utterly intentional decision to focus our resources on markets which actually matter ... like mobile, and Gen4.

— Bob Summerwill (@BobSummerwill) May 17, 2013

@shanselman One more :-). Nintendo platforms have always been very poor revenue-wise for third parties.Only Mario and Zelda make money.

— Bob Summerwill (@BobSummerwill) May 17, 2013

@freebsdgirl @shanselman We're stuck with first-party stores on most platforms anyway. What's the alternative on PC?Paying MS or Valve?

— Bob Summerwill (@BobSummerwill) May 17, 2013

Very professional stuff coming out of that Twitter. I wonder if EA is going to say anything about this.
Francis
It's just sad that people in the industry dont have an open mind to things new or different. There's no need to be so negative. Most of what he said was just plain wrong and ignorant.
I hate the rhetoric "nintendo should just make games for other platforms". No one else makes a platform anything like Nintendo's.
Super-Claus

But guys the best games of nintendo's are on other consoles!

So I now have a computer that can run a Playstation 2 emulator with maxed-out settings at 60 FPS, and I've been playing through Final Fantasy XII: International Zodiac Job System. Pretty great shit.

What are some other games worth playing on the PS2? In retrospect, the PS2 era was the height of my JRPG phase, so aside from the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts titles, and the "standard" PS2 games (Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, etc.), I may have missed out on some truly wonderful gems on that console. So, what are the best PS2 games?

Also I can run a Wii emulator maxed-out too, and the only games I ever got for the Wii really were Nintendo's first-party shit, so if you have any Wii suggestions that works too. Playing on my laptop is so, so much more convenient than having to hook up a console to a television every time I want to play.

Francis
Nintendo published just about every great Wii game, so I'm not sure if you are referring to them all as "first-party shit". Did you try Xenoblade Chronicles? As for third-party, all I can think of is Zack & Wiki and No More Heroes.
Fortran
I really liked Castlevania: Lament of Innocence if you've never played it.
