If gathering friends to play Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator is a bit cumbersome, and if you find FTL a bit lonely, then I’ve found the perfect game for you. Final Frontier is the result of a nasty transporter accident between the pair, where the Heisenberg compensators decoupled and they arrived on the SS GMOD screaming and inside out. The sick bay did its best, but all it could do is stabilise the life signs. To be honest, the gristly lump that was spat out looks pretty amazing.(more…)

Now when you place a door you "own" the space around it.
There are two different user levels... horizontal (green) and vertical (blue).
You can give your level a name.
Inside your levels you have unlimited inventory of everything.
The world will now survive small updates to the server, so it shouldn't need to be reset anytime soon.
other minor stuff
The lantern can be turned on and off.

Here are screen grabs of the entire world (broken up into three images) at about 7:30 eastern time (after it had been wiped clean a few times). I know people kept going, so who knows how far up they went.

Thanks for helping me test things out. There were some strange glitches for sure. Probably caused mostly by the blocks, which I just threw in last minute to give you all something to do.

The "real" game probably wont have free-placement of blocks like that. But instead you would be creating the buildings and objects to go inside them.

You and me both know that Square nowadays is an asshole. They wouldn't let Geno in the game, so I'm thinking that Isaac (Golden Sun) is gonna be there, as he was a trophie.

Once you got Peach, and had that one ring on her, she was unstoppable. I usually used Mario, Peach, and Bowser. (Melee, Healing/invincibility, Melee)
I loved how Bowser could chuck Mario at enemies to cause damage.

Made by artist and designer Tobias Wüstefeld for the We Love 8 Bit show in Austria this month, these two pieces are...animal skulls. Turned into floating Super Mario Bros. levels. Right. It should be macabre as hell, but really, you barely notice the fact they're the skulls of dead animals. Maybe. Just think of them as incredibly detailed clouds! [via it 8-bit]

A portion of a PN interview with Sakurai...

PN: on the occasion of the E3 2011, Satoru Iwata has surprised everyone by announcing that the next Super Smash Bros. game. beyond on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. What are the main differences between the two versions? Can we expect a few surprises, especially at the level of connectivity?

Masahiro Sakurai: While the development of Kid Icarus: Uprising was at its end, Satoru Iwata came me propose to develop the new Smash Bros game, and asked me if he should be on 3DS or Wii U. We were arrived at a point where the series could not evolve too, and we wondered if the passage on handheld console was the solution. In the past, we have increased the number of characters and arenas, but this was not enough.

At that time, we could have chosen to develop a 3DS version only, but we realized the presence of several limitations. I am referring to the fact of playing a game like Super Smash Bros.. on a small screen. Thus, even if it is not easy to develop two versions simultaneously, we chose to adapt the game experience to the specificities of each platform.

Even though the characters will be the same in the version Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, the arena will be completely different. In the 3DS version, they are based on games released on portable consoles, while Wii U, arenas are based on articles on home console games.

PN: Several months ago, in Famitsu magazine, you express the regret of not being able patcher Super Smash Bros.. Brawl, especially at the level of online. But with the Wii U and the 3DS, it is now possible to modify a game after its release. What are the aspects of the new Super Smash Bros. game. which will be the subject of scrutiny, for possible patches?

Sakurai: It is difficult to say at present, but rather obviously, we always try to keep the best balance. Nevertheless, I do not yet know if it will be really easy to patch these games once they will be released. For example: you have a person with a patched version of the game, and another with a non-patched version. If these two people play together, do they meet no problems? We will have to do extensive research about it.

That said, I think the patches are an important tool to maintain the balance of a game, once this last released. As you surely already know, the reputation of some characters, who are considered weak or powerful, is something to which players are very interested on the internet.

And sometimes, you have to ask if these perceptions are correct, or if people simply to join a popular opinion and to follow the movement. We really want to make our characters each have their specificities, with statistics that compensate their strengths.

We want to highlight these individual characteristics, but at the same time, players must also be asked whether they accept the reputation of a character on the internet. This is something that we will also have to take into account when creating patches.
Francis

It's not like I've seen all that much Pac-Man facial hair. Or really, any Pac-Man facial hair. But this is still the worst. This dude, posted to Uberhumor and spotted by Tosh.0, manages to combine some truly nightmarish facial hair with a generally dopey/high facial expression, sending a clear message: "I don't give a flying *crag*." A transcript from when I dropped this image into Kotaku group-chat: Evan: The real question is, does he have enough chest hair for ghosts? Owen: Wait'll you see where he plays Missile Command.

Retro Studios, makers of the legendary Metroid Prime series, is currently busy creating the next generation of Donkey Kong Country, much to the chagrin of a lot of Metroid fans. That doesn't mean, however, that they abandoned Metroid. On the contrary. "Well, we love Metroid. We love Metroid Prime and we always will," Retro Studios President Michael Kelbaugh told IGN. "It was a big part of our studio, the culture of the studio... We might do another one someday. But we really enjoyed working with [Donkey Kong] as well." Kelbaugh explained that the team wanted to develop another Donkey Kong Country to see what they could do with the franchise on the Wii U's more powerful hardware, and to implement some leftover ideas from Country Returns. So, why not develop a new Metroid Prime alongside the new Donkey Kong Country? "We’re pretty much on one major project at a time. We do a game every two years or three years... Do we have the bandwidth to do two major projects at once? I don’t think so. A big project and a little project at the same time, we can do that." IGN then spoke to Nintendo's Kensuke Tanabe, producer of all four Metroid Prime titles, who chimed in with his own ideas on where the Prime series could go next. "Basically I’m thinking of, not just Samus, but how we can expand the whole Samus universe. You remember Metroid Prime Hunters. I’m thinking about things like how we could make that go out further, with all these different bounty hunters as well." Well, better late than never. new Hunters almost confirmed

Hunters wasn't made by Retro. As far as any involvement had with Hunters, Retro only supplied character designs. I hope Retro's can make a better "Hunters" type game than NST did, though.

The following comes from a Eurogamer interview with Eiji Aonuma.

Removed Wind Waker dungeons

"Quite honestly, those dungeons we removed we used in other games, so we can't use them in this version!"

On new content in Wind Waker HD

"I've received many questions about additional content beyond what was in the GameCube version of the game, but our desire is to stay true of the story that was in the original. If we add dungeons then that will affect other parts of the GameCube version, which we really want to stay true to.

If it felt like there were maybe too few dungeons then I feel that what was wrong with the GameCube version was the pacing. It was thrown off because it took longer to get to certain dungeons. There was a waiting period, and then when you arrived there the experience maybe didn't feel as big, as you'd waited so long to get there. We're tuning the game to alleviate all that. The pacing should feel appropriate to the overall experience this time... We need to tighten those [gaps] and make the overall experience and story feel tighter."

Why get a another monitor when my computer is a laptop, which has a perfectly good built-in screen?
And the thing about wireless keyboards is that the vast majority of them are only good for about two to three feet away
Also, if I had my computer outputting to two monitors, there's that, plus running multiple processes for both the television and the game engine I'm developing in, which can already be a beast depending on what you're doing
Anyone who streams Game of Thrones live openly would in all likelihood be shut down by HBO within minutes of the episode's start

Crazy that they would give up on all the benefits they were going to have. (game sharing, no disc needed, etc)  Discs now have to be in the tray, digital games can't be shared or resold, but everything can work offline.

Could they not have done both?

Grievous

Like I said on another site, the removal of the negatives isn't some kind of good will offering, it's damage control. There's still the threat of them reinstating them in a patch.

Francis
ah cool Gold, I didn't know they added that. Yeah it's like the Wii -> Wii U transfer process, for moving everything to a new device. (probably for people who wanted to upgrade to an XL).

As part of the Switch Fringe festival in Ipswich, England, artist The Decibel Kid drew this map of the city to help attendees find their way around and track down shows and events. While most aspects are actual parts of Ipswich rendered in 16-bit style, keep your eyes out for the odd Nintendo cameo, like the King of Red Lions. Map [Switch Fringe, via Slashdot]
